Blundell is my secret route to get from east to west Richmond without having to go through the congestion of cars trying to get off the freeway. I'd hate to see an interchange put in there.

This is standard infrastructure in any first world city. This has nothing to do with fantasy and all to do with the bare minimum required in this region. Its because of people with your attitudes this corner of the world is falling behind and is not keeping up with the most basic infrastructure.
Corholio, you are right, imo. People here have a "retro" attitude about infrastructure, and a strange fear and horror of tunnels (new ones, that is).
One of the reasons Melbourne overtook Vancouver in the Most Liveable City rankings was Vancouver's lack of infrastructure, road infrastructure in particular.
People here seem to be afraid that not only are such underground expressways prohibitively expensive, but that they'll deter people from using rapid transit.
It's a strange sort of local mentality, but a backward and frankly, rather crippling one in a city that is growing by leaps and bounds.

Not to take this offtopic since well it already has....

You should check out Ohashi Junction in Tokyo
Amazing road engineering project with a skygarden on top

Its an elevated highway interchange that offramps into a building type structure where turning into a corkscrew throughout the building and terminate into the C2 Circular Road (which most of it is an submerged highway running through various wards of tokyo)

Not only would an interchange at Blundell allow for car access into the heart of Richmond rather than its southern and northern edges, but it would also provide a great transit connection.

Highway buses add a stop, and an east-west route along Blundell gets a logical terminus there at the highway. This both allows for a useful east-west route, and makes it easier for people to go between Richmond and South Delta/South Surrey, without having force their way to Bridgeport or Steveston Highway on north-south routes.

Blundell and 99 is the heart of Richmond? It's low density farm land

Think before you speak, and look at the big picture instead of the little details.

That being that Blundell is an excellent east-west crossroad and goes directly to the city centre.

Starting to think that you're a parody.

No shit lol, but you travel 4 blocks west and you're in the geographic centre of the built up area. From the current interchanges you have to weave and bob through the grid to get most places. A third interchange between them would make the middle much more accessible. And again, transit.

If they built the interchange during the review period for the tunnel, it would definitely take the strain off the Steveston interchange, and reduce the amount of time the 401, 403, 404, and C93 spend getting delayed or detoured.

Good point, can't believe I didn't think of that. Steveston Highway has probably taken days off my life in traffic at this point.

Westminster & 3 Road is the heart of Richmond. That's what the Westminster interchange is for. It goes straight to the heart of Richmond. Your logic is flawed

There's no question the Steveston interchange is sub par and needs to be overhauled. It's part of the new GMB project. Building a blundell interchange before addressing the Steveston interchange will never happen

You're getting caught up on the word "heart." I don't mean downtown, I mean geographic centre. If you're going to someone's house, or a specific store, or whatever in that big space between Steveston Highway and Westminster, a Blundell Interchange would allow you to do so while spending less time driving on city streets. This is fact, and therefore my logic is not flawed. Cities have more destinations than their downtowns. Improving access to people's homes is also important.

Exactly. They should study the amount of trips going to/coming from the Bridgeport, Westminster, and Steveston interchanges are actually going to/coming from Richmond Centre. Hell, maybe the could add access to westbound Alderbridge way.

It's a brutal stretch of road. I've spent over an hour getting from Shell Road to the tunnel on Steveston Hwy before on a Saturday with no accident. It was inexplicable.

I've also spent a lot of time in traffic built up on Blundell and Steveston Hwy (backs up from Number 5 to Number 6 road frequently) heading west as more and more people try to find their away around traffic gridlock getting through the tunnel or getting from Surrey and Burnaby into Richmond.

A connection at Blundell to Hwy 99 along with additional lanes that a new bridge would bring would alleviate this traffic. It's common sense really.

If they are going to build an interchange at Blundell, they're also gonna have to widen Blundell too. It's only 2 lanes between No. 5 and No. 4.

That'll probably never happen. Brodie is like Moonbeam. Extra lanes means extra traffic and more pollution leading up to climate change.

You're agreeing with GlassCity about building a blundell interchange in conjunction with the new bridge and an upgraded Steveston Hwy interchange but GlassCity is proposing a new blundell interchange to take pressure off the Steveston interchange with no upgrades or a new bridge. Which is it guys?

Well, it's true. Use all the stupid nicknames you want, induced demand is indeed a thing.

And it is a good thing as it is a result of economic activity. I assume you propose building nothing ever. In fact you think building anything ever was a mistake right?

I'd be totally okay with that. Should have been 4 lanes a long time ago since Blundell is already 4 lanes west of 4 road.

Too bad all those houses are in the way now.
