BLM has been remarkably healthy over his career and Dickenson seems reluctant to take him out of any games. I can remember when BLM was pretty equal to Brad Sinopoli in training camp, makes me wonder what would have happened if the nod went to Sinopoli.

I have a lot of empathy for Buckley because DD has never been particularly praise worthy and BLM threw Buckley under the bus at the Grey Cup when BLM himself couldn't get the job done.
Now we know why Buckley and Stanzi have been getting zero playing time, horrible performances by both QB's last evening. If Bo doesn't regain his form the Stamps will be one and done in the Western final. DD's job is to win games, not coddle players, player's job is to step up when given the opportunity, sometimes you only get one, Buckley just had his.

At least Buckley won't lose his second-string standing to Stanzi. A 30-year-old backup with NFL experience should have had a much better showing than a 23-year-old with almost zero professional experience. Buckley will be around for training camp next year but Stanzi won't.

I was waiting for this. Yup, he was not very good... nor was the weather (same for both sides) and nor was his offensive line. He made a big gain running, called back for holding, threw a touchdown pass, called back for holding.

If a coach will only give a player one opportunity and not judge on day in and day out performance he's an idiot. In that case we'd have never seen Anthony Calvillo again, he took at least five years to get anywhere.

Easily the worst performance that I've seen from Buckley in his very limited opportunities. Every other time he's shown he deserved more. Maybe this reflects more on DD's insistence on playing Mitchell non stop and not giving anyone else any playing time. Mitchell himself ain't what he used to be. And speaking of DD not replacing players what the hell was Buckley still doing in the game when he was limping around like a madman?

The O Line gets a failing grade as does DD for his past three games. Buckley blew this one but he wasn't responsible for Calgary losing the two games before that. Some other people need to look in the mirror for failed performance.

I couldn't believe how badly the Oline played. Buckley never really had much time in the pocket to do much, and with Messam's footing issues, had no opportunity to use the run game either. Nor did his receivers give him much help until the odd catch ion the third quarter. Buckley didn't play well but the Stamps overall played a very poor game. I wonder why Mitchell though it was so funny that he was laughing at the end of the game?

Buckley wasn't good against Saskatchewan when he came in 3 weeks ago, he's looked good in one relief appearance against sad sack Hamilton in the blowout game. I think because DD was a starting QB himself he doesn't like to pull his starter out of games when probably he should. Offence definitely needs to step up, chances are we won't win the Western final if the offence goes five 2 and outs to start the game like they did in Edmonton but we sure won't win if either Buckley or Stanzi are playing QB. Expect Huff will be finding us new back-up QB's for next season, will see in July.

Stock up on Kleenex, Edmonton. And have the grief counsellors ready. After next weekend all you’ll have left are your memories and the Oilers.

The league outta hire Donnovan Bennett. How he can write these stories and still keep his job at Sportsnet is some kind of miracle. Or maybe he has incriminating photos

Photographic memories: Mike Babcock and his Saskatchewan Roughriders
Donnovan Bennett sportsnet.ca November 4, 2017

Mike Babcock loves the Saskatchewan Roughriders the way you love the Toronto Maple Leafs. Or fill in the blank for whatever Canadian professional sports team is closest to your heart.

Following a recent 6-3 loss to the Carolina Hurricaines and an abbreviated practice at the MasterCard Centre, I didn’t expect the Toronto Maple Leafs head coach to be in a talkative mood.

But Babcock couldn’t stop talking or smiling when talking about his beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders.

My biggest takeaway from my time with Babcock was that his love affair with the CFL as a child was entirely different from mine. I’ve expressed in the past that growing up in Southern Ontario my addiction to everything Toronto Argonauts or my wife being raised in a Hamilton Tiger-Cats household make us anomalies in comparison to our big city millennial counterparts.

In Babcock’s case, his affiliation with the Riders as a teen was an affirmation of what it meant to be a young boy in Saskatoon. As much as times have changed from when Babcock grew up in the Prairies, the one constant has been that everyone, no matter, age, 🞵🞵🞵, or religion is in on the Riders. In many ways, it is their religion and Mosaic stadium is where they find commune. Home games against teams from neighbouring provinces are seen as civil, civil wars.

Babcock played football in high school at the junior level but didn’t play senior because he began playing minor hockey, eventually suiting up for the Saskatoon Blades of the WHL. But long after he traded in cleats for skates he never stopped being a fan of the gridiron game.

To put his fandom in perspective Babcock shares that the first time he coached Ryan Getzlaf, the first thing he did was explain to the Regina-born power forward that he’s the second most important Getzlaf in his family. Ryan’s older brother Chris, is a star receiver for the Riders. Babcock was joking, but of course there is truth in every joke.

After living in six provinces and four states, Babcock remains fiercely proud of the province in which he was raised and still chooses to call home. Being awarded an Honourary Doctor of Laws by the University of Saskatchewan is one of his proudest honours. You can see the pride come across his face as he beams about the fact his sons chose to hang Pilsner Rider flags in their American university dorm rooms.

Pay close attention to Babcock’s language when talking about the team. He uses words such as “our” and “we.”

Before we sat down for our interview, as a courtesy I asked Babcock if he was comfortable being on camera wearing shorts. With his face still flush red as he had arrived straight from a workout, he looked at me as if I was crazy. He’s not from a time or place where every picture is put in a perfect filter and retouched to garner optimum likes on Instagram. His identity is not a brand he hopes others consume and like.

So don’t let the finely-tapered suits and the perfectly combed hair behind the bench fool you. Babcock feels most at home with a Riders hat on around friends and family at Emma Lake or when tailgating in Regina watching the Green Riders play.

As soon as the interview ended, Babcock traded his Maple Leafs hat for a Roughriders hat. The new cap was slapped on as he retreated back to his day job at a brisk pace.

Below are a few photos I showed Babcock during the interview, with some of his thoughts.

The New Mosaic Stadium

“Any of these places are gathering places for your community. When you’re from a place like Saskatchewan you drive from Prince Albert, you drive from the south, you drive from all over to go to these games. Why? Because it’s your team.”

Pressure on Roughriders coach Chris Jones

“The pressure of trying to deliver every day, and deliver on a franchise, a historic franchise that means a lot to the province I think is a special thing. I think it’s a real honour. When you accept the job, you have an obligation to that community to get the team to play right and make the community proud so obviously he’s doing a good job.”

Ron Lancaster and George Reed

“You’d have all the guys standing around you’d ask 20 of them you’d get 10 each way. They are household names. Now my kids might not even know these names to be honest with you because it’s so far past to be honest with you but in saying that special times, special memories.”

The Stamps looked like they weren't even really trying, but even if that was the case, going into the playoffs on a 3 game losing streak is some seriously bad mojo.

I wonder if the WSF won't come down to how far along Nichols is in his recovery... he'll start even if he's not ready to, but if he's going to be seriously compromised, the Bombers are in trouble.

I know the Bombers beat Edmonton twice, but the somewhat depleted defence will be put to the test by the Eskimo passing game. I think it'll be a solid matchup.

Anyone have an idea if the RedBlacks are going to sell seats in the temp endzone for the playoff game? Would be cool for them to get 30K +

They do not appear to be selling endzone seats for the East Semi-Final, at least not yet.

I think there has been some debate about this. I think they need to sell out the regular stadium first before considering doing this. Of course, since all the season ticket holders already have their playoff tickets as part of their package, there won't be a huge number of tickets to sell.

A bigger question will be the attendance in Toronto. Of course, if Ottawa wins on Sunday, I think a good contingent of RedBlack fans will be going to Toronto. Perhaps an opportunity to reverse what happens in Ottawa with Leaf games.

Based on the seats available (appears to be still 2-3K left to sell before Sunday in the regular stadium) I would be surprised if there was enough demand for additional end zone seats to be sold. But it is Saskatchewan so you never know. As for Toronto it's a perfect storm with either Ottawa or Saskatchewan being the opponent. Saskatchewan is always the biggest draw in any city and I could see about 1K redblacks fans driving to TO for the game. I think 20K would be a success for the Argos.

Ugh, according to Wally, sounds like David Braley is going to hang on to the team in 2018. Can't see anything good coming from this. About 2:45 mark

https://www.pscp.tv/w/1ypKdNebYMLJW

-he is not going to "invest" in what needs to have money spent on. Marketing, practice facility, personel, etc.

-die 🞵🞵🞵🞵 🞵🞵🞵🞵 fans are getting frustrated and this is potentially toxic. Apathy is next and that is the worst thing from a fan base

-are they going to change a few players and say were going to be better but keep the same coaching staff etc.

^ While that's not necessarily great news, it shouldn't be taken as terrible news either. For one, doesn't BC already have a practice facility out in Surrey? Or did they get rid of it? I'm pretty sure that was the first facility of its kind in the league... must date back to the 80s sometime.

And it's not like Lions fans are all that long suffering... I was surprised to recently learn that this season was the first time that the Lions finished fifth in the west division since the 1970s. You guys also have one of the best stadiums in the league which is in a very good location too.

I get that this season was tough but at the same time a little fan patience is also called for.

The Surrey facility is a little outdated, I know Bob Ackles did some upgrades when he came back in 2002 but compared to the rest of the west, it is outdated

As much as I agree with you on BC Place, it seems fickle fans are never happy...its too big, Downtown is too far, the roof is open/closed at the wrong time. I think they need to do more to market the team, it is a very expensive city to live in so you have to make it an event and make sure people get value for their money.

I think so too, but Braley has been flirting with selling the team so a while now, hinted as much this spring, so I think this is a sh*t or get off the pot scenario. Team is losing value and fan base is losing faith in Wally, but Braley will never ask him to step down.

Interesting, all BC Lions season ticket holders got an email from David Braley. Its a start, but lets see how he backs it up.

Today I am reaching out to you as one of our valued season ticket holders. Your support of the BC Lions is greatly appreciated and I want to personally thank you for it.

We are all disappointed with the final outcome of the 2017 season. In 2016, we made significant changes to the team and turned the club’s performance around finishing with a winning 12-6 record. This season, we re-signed a number of our key free agents and added players that we believed would make the team even better than the previous year. This 2017 team was built to compete for a championship; we had high expectations that did not materialize, however, we will fix it. Changes will be made to the organization this off-season to ensure we put forth a winning team.

I am passionate about this football club, its commitment to the community and the Canadian Football League. There is a lot of work to be done and I will make important changes this off-season based upon what’s best for this team and you, our loyal fans, in an effort to put a competitive, exciting product on the field in 2018.

This is not the end of our journey together; I am going to be with you as the owner of this franchise through next season. I am committed to ensuring this team is the best it can be as we move into the year ahead.

With my thanks again for your kind support of the BC Lions,

David Braley
Chairman
BC Lions Football Club

.
It's worth noting that you could replace "BC Place" with "SkyDome" in that sentence and you have the exact same sentiment that was in Toronto from about 1999-2015
