Theoretically, you shouldn't have luggage on an escalator, so it probably wouldn't play into decision making.

Note, I said "theoretically".

Why not? Not everyone with luggage will want to wait for the one little elevator. If we're really going to connect the LRT with the airport we should be expecting people to drag their little rolling luggages with them.

I believe luggage is prohibited on escalators in most locations, but virtually never enforced. It would however factor into the escalator decision making process.

Really? I have taken my luggage on escalators around the world, be it airports, shopping centres, ferries and mass transit stations, not once did I see a sign prohibiting it.

Yes, it is very theoretical. On my recent train trip to New York, I exclusively used escalators with my bags. And then I hit Montreal Central Station and the down escalator was out of commission. It is a pain, hauling luggage down stairs, no matter how able bodied you are. Who knows where elevators are.

There are many videos of falls on escalators due to luggage but the first clip on this video is classic:

No mention of the canned and boxed goods provided for one stop shopping. Though they could just not have mentioned them, I suspect they won't have them due to lack of space and since Shoppers is so close. The two really compliment each other well.

I'm a little confused by this one, given that "luxury" brands traditionally have not survived here in Ottawa. But indeed.ca is showing a job opportunity for a Montblanc boutique at the Rideau Centre, to open November 1st.

Montblanc is a nice addition to the mall. They deal in luxury jewellery and other knick knacks for which demand seems robust here.

Also noticed that German fashion brand Marc Cain is opening at Rideau, third level across Nespresso.

I assume they'll be located where Jubilee Fine Jewellers was. They put up that floral wall wrap around that space recently. Either that or the space in the new part of the mall that never had a tenant.

The housewear store Stokes is taking over the old Squish location on the bottom floor.

There's signage up where the former Shoppers was advertising that Score Pizza is coming (http://scorepizza.ca). Here's a photo from the Ottawa reddit (credit: reddit-on-reddit).

On their website it says their only other location is in Kingston.

I'm surprised the space didn't go to a big chain. On one hand it's nice to support Canadian small business and provide people with a unique experience, but the last unique restaurant from Kingston (the grilled cheese place in the food court) didn't make it.

Between this space going to Score Pizza and the old Real Sports still sitting empty, I wonder if big chain restaurants are staying away from downtown.

Meltdown closed because it was overpriced apparently. I think that with Rideau Street frontage and hopefully fair prices, Score Pizza will do well.

As for Real Sports, I'm not sure what happened. I went a few times and it was always packed, just like everything else in the Market. Kind of weird how one day, they suddenly closed with little to no warning.

Must have been a weekend. I'd gone in a couple times during the week and it was dead. Lots of people in Ottawa aren't keen on supporting an overpriced bar owned by the Leafs.

I went on a Tuesday and it was packed. I was surprised that it closed.

Also surprised, as it seemed busy, although the Leaf connection always left me conflicted.

Is there any evidence that big chain restaurants are staying away from downtown? I was thinking quite the opposite actually. Isn't this site essentially bookended by a Joey and Chipotle?
