Mid-rise apartment proposal replaces tower plan for University City car wash site

http://www.philly.com/philly/business/re...h-n-lube-west-philadelphia-20171025.html

Quote:
Plans for a high-rise apartment tower at the current site of the Chestnut Wash N Lube car wash in University City have been scaled back, with a six-story building now being proposed for the property instead.

The Philadelphia Civic Design Review board is scheduled next month to consider the revised proposal for the 4125 Chestnut St. site. The new plans call for 130 dwelling units and 8,800 square feet of ground-floor office space, along with a public outdoor “parklette” and a green roof, according to a presentation posted Wednesday to the board’s website.

Previous plans for the site, unveiled in February, involved a 17-story tower with 240 units.

Why do you think that? I think we have a great shot at the knockout round.

Where will the final be played?

tbf with the expansion of the number of teams, it remains to be seen exactly how they'll organize it, so maybe I should wait and see, but I think it's unlikely because NYC and DC are almost surely guarantees to get games. I can't see them putting knockout games in 3 different northeastern cities, but even if they did we'd then be competing with Boston and Baltimore. I think this is a case where our proximity to NYC and DC will definitely hurt.

Agreed and since it's a shared bid, I'd imagine that three Canadian and three Mexican Cities will be in the mix. Then for the US, you want to have at least two sites on the West Coast, a couple in the Midwest, one in Texas, one in the South an then, then a few in the NE. It starts to get tight - do you really have games in Boston, NY, Phila, Baltimore, and DC and ignore other US regions?)

We have a good shot at hosting a WC game, given our central position in the Northeast. If they want a single host stadium for the entire Northeast (but why? my estimate is that the megalopolis has ~45 mil people which means roughly 1 out of 6 Americans live in the Northeast) it'd basically come down to the Meadowlands or the Linc.

The opening and closing ceremonies would probably be at the new LA stadium, since it'll be the newest shiniest large-capacity stadium in the country in 2026, as well as being right in the 10-million-man LA metro.

don't think we'd be competing with baltimore for a knock out round game, they'd be lucky to get a first round game. And since DC and NY would be in the running for the largest games, they wouldn't load those cities up with other games too. Remember that 24 teams will make it to the knockout round, so that's 12 potential cities. As we are the 4th largest media market in the US, and 6th in the 3 host countries, I'd say our chances were decent. Not a lock, but decent.

If the U.S did land the World Cup, the sheer size of Philly (being #6 by city proper and #7 by metro) would be enough to get us at least one game in. Granted, the Linc is fairly small by NFL standards, and really should have been much bigger, but what other country has as many stadiums as this one? I do agree with hammersklavier in that the final game probably would be in L.A, given how new and big the stadium will be. Of course, with all of its stadiums, L.A may be able to host the World Cup by itself.

The Linc would host one for sure if it had 80,000+ seats, still has a pretty decent shot as is. Don't know why it was made with less than 70,000 capacity to start with.

I agree with this and PHL10's comments too. I would expect DC and NYC to almost definitely chosen and Philly possibly being left out in the cold because of its proximity to those two cities and the joint bid (but not for any other reason related to the size of the metro or quality of the stadium). It kind of sucks if we didn't get a game, but if you want to see games in person there will be plenty of opportunities within an easy drive.

Yea, the Linc could have more seats, but it still has more seats than the Patriots, Steelers, Bears, Colts, 49ers' stadiums among many others

There are only 5 NFL stadiums with 80,000+ seats...LA, NY (East Rutherford), Dallas, DC, and Green Bay.

So with all the current conversations about Amazon and the World Cup , does anyone know if there is any
up dated information concerning the capping of that section of I-95 . Just asking ...

4 of those 5 (sorry, Green Bay) are guaranteed to get knockout round games IMO.

Just for reference, the 2014 World Cup used 12 venues. From what I can tell via Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_FIFA_World_Cup_venues), 4 of those 12 stadiums only hosted group stage games, and 2 more only hosted 1 round of 16 game. Assuming the increase in World Cup games means the US has 16 venues, I guess around 12 will host knockout round games? I guess Philly would have a shot then, though I still think it's unlikely.

The thing about that, though, is that I suspect that Canada will only have 1-2 cities in the mix: Toronto and maybe Montréal. So if we assume Mexico gets three cities and Canada gets Toronto, that's still 12 facilities for us.

If we just assume the games occur in the country's 12 most populous MSAs/CSAs, then that's a good distribution nationally and guarantees we get one as well. Remember, it's unlikely we're going to see anything other than group play at the Linc.

IIRC Mexico and Canada are each only going to have 1-2 cities, and I think group stage games only. It's basically going to be 90% USA, even though they're packaging it as a joint bid.

When the big announcement came they basically said they were moving forward with design which would take 2 years. Until they start rolling out conceptual designs for public viewing I doubt we will hear much.
