It’s not a “retirement community”; it’s principally a college town (U. of AZ) but it’s Tucson and it wouldn’t be a bad choice for Bezos though I’d hate it. The traffic is already pretty bad and the housing not especially cheap like it used to be although there’s plenty of land to build more.

Why not? Vancouver had fake cable cars—the motorized kind you see hauling tourists around SF—I noted on my first visit there (can’t say for sure if they still do).

Did they not have those in Houston? They were all over the state. We had one in College Station for a while, but it closed and the space became something else. I think it's a Razoo's now.

Why would you think that? Philly has released a public version of their proposal, though it does not go into the specific details of the economic incentives. Philly is consistently mentioned as a front runner.

Some cities have released their entire response. I've seen what appears to be Toronto's and Boston's entire proposals, and they were both speculated as frontrunners. Amazon has not publicly confirmed any city to be a frontrunner, but if they have said something privately then I would expect details to be a little more closely guarded. There was some media reporting initially that Amazon went into this already having its ideal locations in mind. So if Amazon has already given concrete indication to a city that they are a favorite then I wouldn't expect them to publicly release details, unless they are required to do so by law.
One think we're all missing is that Amazon, as a public company, doesn't have to play by the same rules it lists in the HQ2 RFP as a city government or non-profit. I would not be surprised if something unexpected happens, especially if it's in the financial interest of shareholders. For example, Newark, NJ is offering a ton of incentives. Amazon might approach Newark tell them they're not getting HQ2, but they will get a regional office or something if they offer the same incentives and build a smaller HQ2 than they originally told the world.
It could be a race for the bottom as others have speculated. Amazon could simply throw out all the requirements about transit, bikes, mixed-uses, housing options, and other things that make for a livable city, and instead just go with whoever offers the most incentives, even if it's in a boring suburban office park 30 miles outside of Denver.
I'm not suggesting this will happen, just pointing out the incredible flexibility Amazon has here. Google is starting to get into the land development game building smart cities. I would love for Amazon to do the same, they have the sway to convince a city or state to allow them to build something really interesting, outside of traditional zoning, that no other developer would have.

The food offerings are a cross between Pizza Hut and Appleby's. Closer to Appleby's actually. It may be called 'Boston Pizza' but it has nothing to do with Boston (or the USA). The guy who started it was a fan of the Boston Bruins NHL team. Some people just call the restaurant 'BP'.
We also have a food court chain called New York Fries but it has nothing to do with french fries from New York. The founder just liked the name, pretentious as it is. I suppose having the word 'New York' in there helped with international expansion; they're in 10 countries. I call it North York Fries.
