At this point we don't even know how much, if any, tax breaks Amazon will end up getting. I'd be surprised if they went with a proposal that had none, but you never know. Maybe some city will have such a strong bid even without any tax breaks that Amazon goes for them even without the financial incentives.

One variable is that Amazon wouldn't have to pay for their employee's health insurance if they moved to a Canadian city. Over the course of a decade or two that would amount to a huge "subsidy".
No, the sanest thng to do is to importune your elected leaders NOT to give Bezos and/or Amazon a dime of taxpayer money for this project. But even if you avoid that debacle, it's quite likely your town (or neighborhod if it's already one of America's largest cities) will suffer growing pains:

Y'know I think I might feel sorry for the people at Amazon who have to sift through all these bids, score them and figure out which ones are the best. What a pain in the ass task! And you've got to read all kinds of chamber-of-commerce-y boosterism b.s. on all the proposals.
Haha yeah where does one start in this bid? Does page one read "____City, ____ State is a city in the ______ region of the United States..." or does the cover page establish this?

That's great about not giving them more subsidies, but $1.24 billion is a half trillion dollars company, that is a tiny amount of subsidies compared to the overall size of it's business. I'm sure if you looked at any other similarly sized company you could identify a billion or more in tax breaks.
An multi-billion dollar new terminal is under construction at LGA.
The best spot in NY is the HY or 2 WTC with an ancillary campus in Brooklyn and/or JC.
Long Island City is one of 4-5 proposed sites in NYC. In fact if they cover the rail yard like they did at Hudson Yard it could easily accommodate Amazon and a few others. Queens also checks all the box in term of transportation and accessibility with numerous subway lines and plethora of residential construction. Why people think NYC automatically means Manhattan is beyond me.
I think the idea that Amazon would locate in NYC is pretty delusional...the geographical constraints and inability to build more rail/road links from Manhattan to Jersey are extremely important. Newark would be a perfect location (specifically Harrison, NJ), if it's going to be NY. Plus the cost of living, cost of doing business, etc.
