I used to watch a lot of NHL (and once upon a time, MLB: expos), but I got too busy with kids and career and gave it up. I barely give half a shit about the sports world nowadays. I certainly do not miss the idiotic commentary "Those guys wanted to win more", "we gotta get better at getting the puck in the net", "we gave 100% but those guys were hungrier, they gave 110%"
It is just a fucking game, people. Interspersed with a gazillion commercials and nauseating "music"

Same evolution in my case too, except that I'm on the opposite side of you from Acajack: I never paid that much attention, but I would watch games if the Nordiques (then Habs, more recently) were in the playoffs, and likely the yearly Stanley Cup finals regardless of teams, but nowadays, it's been years since I watched anything. It just leaves me cold.
I'm like Proof Sheet - I feel watching a sport I don't play is a waste of time, and it's been years since I actually played ice hockey myself. But when you're playing the sport in question, then watching pros (and paying close attention to what they do) is not just entertainment anymore, it doubles as "theoretical training".
Nowadays if I'm going to watch something it will be soccer, the only thing I can say I've still got a reasonable chance of playing again somewhat regularly.
