The other house does give the impression of cheaper looking inspiration of their house. It shouldn't come as a surprise that I don't find it ugly of them or fault them for being upset to the point of a lawsuit.

Haha of course you wouldn't! That's a little extreme don't you think? On what grounds could you possibly sue them? There's tons of copycat houses out there and architecture in general copies other architecture. It's not like they can claim copyright infringement.
I thought it was over the top, but it will be interesting to see the outcome (if it isn't settled). Apart from the copyright issue, it's not clear at all to me how a cheap imitation of someone's home, almost a kilometre away, could harm the value of the house.
