Ok I thought something emerged more recently than that.

My guess is still Hydro for the fifth tower

I wouldn't get married to that design, as it's barely a sketch, never mind a rendering. Those two buildings could easily become one 25 story tower, or anything else. The design is entirely driven by how many people they need to fit, as any tenant will obviously pay the rent for them.

The required amount of employees and space would dictate the building size.

Developers would do anything for tenants. They'd shrink a building if they can't fill it, stretch it big time if a major player needs space. If something gets built, it won't look like the sketch proposed.

Ok.....you guy know I'm joking about Amazon right?

One, Amazon isn't coming to Winnipeg and two, I thought it was so farcical that I mentioned 50,000 employees in that small short 10 storey building it would totally be thought of as humorous.

....oh well

Plus you can do away with floors, hallways and other waste, and have Amazon warehouse robots deliver the hipsters to their vertically-stacked cubicles.

I wonder if the south crane was placed there so it could also work on the church property? Maybe a hint?

It would seem that it could've gone at the plaza side of the building, similar to the other crane.

I feel as though it's placement was to optimize the functionality of the job site. Seems like it could interfere with the other crane if it were on the plaza side. Plus I doubt that the tenants of tns would take kindly to a crane running on site for a couple years after opening

Yup. That's why I haven't complained in the SkyCity thread that they haven't updated the "Before" site picture in years.

That chipman involvement in the church site was a fabrication of this web site...I believe the connection was chipman goes to church.

The connection runs a bit deeper than that. He is quite active in the community, helping develop a Jesuit middle school and as a former member of the Misericordia board, which is part of the Archdiocese.

^ ok, but it is a real stretch to go from he is active in his own church community to assuming he is involved in a multi-million dollar real estate play for a single church. Do you know how many churches are looking to develop their site? The link is 100% speculation from this forum.....we shouldn't continue talking about it as fact, like there is real evidence of Longboat's involvement. More evidence suggests they are not involved.

I know who is pushing the church proposal and it has no connection to the chipman family.

That might have been my speculation. The Church is obviously able to issue tax receipts. If Chipman/Longboat basically used a PPP style model they could essentially front the cost of the church owned building and then reap tax credits and payments over the course of the mortgage. It isn't exactly the most conventional financing model but it could explain how the church is getting money for the development.

to assume that the chipmans/longboat have no influence on the proposal or site plans for the church development is completely asinine or naïve.
How the site is developed has major implications on true north square, chipman will not allow anything to be developed on that site that doesn't connect or blend in with the existing development.
He has his hands in this whether its through financial funding or influence in the church community.

it is not farfetched to believe that chipmans will have some sort of link to any future develppment on that site.. if anything I would be shocked if they didn't.. they invested 400 million dollars into this project and their not going to let the value of their investment sink because of poor vision or a half — building being developed next to it.

A church can't issue a tax receipt for development construction. Every church would be doing that.

You talk like chipman is some kind of omnipotent being that oversees all that happens in his kingdom.

There is no evidence that the church and chipman are linked. None. Zero.

There is also no evidence that the church proposal is anything more than a flashy rendering trying to drum up support.

I am working with a church trying to get a single 12 storey building built and it is incredibly difficult to cobble together grants to make it work.
