I still have yet to make it to the Blue Boy Motel demolition at Fraser and 41st to see if i can get some of the tiles hidden beneath the metal sheeting. Anyone know how far along the demolition is?

Vancity Buzz has info on the Commercial Broadway Bing Thom development. 4 towers of 11, 17, 21 and 24 stories. 649 residential units, with a mix of market condominiums and affordable rentals. The podium will have a new 56,000 sq. ft. Safeway, along with 50,000 sq. ft. of office space, a daycare, 11,200 sq. ft. of retail, and a covered public breezeway that connects East Broadway and East 10th Avenue with pop-up retail opportunities. As a CAC, a plaza is still being proposed to be built over the Grandview Cut.

8795-8803 Granville Street V2.0

The application page has yet to be updated with these boards. If the project failed the UDP meeting they probably won't see the light of day, but this way they'll at least be visible in our forum's light.

The model on the white board is the first vision of the project.

Here's the newest version of the 8795-8803 Granville proposal. As it was already 7pm when the project came up, I decided it wasn't worth sticking around another hour to hear the verdict. That means those of us that aren't city staff will have to wait for the minutes on this one. Still, with units that look more like corridors than homes, I think this one might be coming back for a third try.

Haven't seen this posted anywhere. The Dunbar Ryerson United Church is proposing a development on the land surrounding their facility, at 45th and Yew. Link: http://rezoning.vancouver.ca/applications/2165-2195and2205-2291w45thave/index.htm

There are two sites. The west site, 2205-2291 West 45th Avenue, which has a social housing component as well as a new community activity centre. The church itself is planned to be restored and given heritage designation.

I'm assuming that to help pay for this is the east site, at 2165-2195 West 45th Avenue, which includes an 8-storey market building.

There have been posts about this project just before, and after, the most recent open house. Still, it's good to point out that this proposal is going to a public hearing on October 17th and will need all the support it can get. It's bringing needed density for the neighbourhood, but is seeing a lot of protest from SFH owners that feel their neighbourhood shouldn't see any additional density.

Speaking at that public hearing or even writing a letter when the option is available would be a great sign to show council that area of Vancouver is overdue for at least a small amount of density.

Former Chevron

My photo - September 23rd (I wasn't the driver, honest)

This is the former Chevron location at Cambie and 16th. I'm impressed, but not surprised, at how fast the new owners have demo'ed the site.

It's the same with the one at Oak & 41st and Dunbar and 29th, both gone very fast.

And now they'll sit empty for 5-10 years, perhaps with a Coromandel hoarding around them.

they can, sure, but the difference was these properties wont allow 2 towers to go on them, with one being ~30 floors tall. these are more mid-rise towers which means a lot less money is to be made with them. don't expect them to be built up fast. but who knows, maybe they will be; though previous experiences don't bode well for that.

Yes they'd can and I read an article about it about a month ago with a company who deals with contaminated soil and they said it's around 20,000-100,000 to remove it as a opposed to letting it sit. I'm not sure why more sites don't ship out the soil.

Luckily, Wesgroup has purchased all of them so far (except for W Georgia)

From VancouverMarket.ca Twitter:

The Dairy Queen on East Hastings will soon become 42-rental apartment units. (yes, Hastings is in fact an arterial). http://bit.ly/2wmKZx6

^ Interesting pieces, but there is a 100% certainty that they will be pried up and sold for scrap before the year is out.

probably, or the first time someone trips over them and gets hurt.

though you can find ways of mounting things into the concrete sidewalk that is pry-proof. if you ever see brass inlay in the sidewalks like in some places downtown, that stuff was made pry-proof after about 3/4 different methods were used.
