Odd to kick out Home Essence and Country Lane just for a pop-up store. That doesn't really make any sense unless those two stores would have had to have moved in any event because another retailer was slated to move into that space in the spring/summer of 2018. I wonder if this is the case? We'll have to follow this carefully down the road..........

Celebrate, a "seasonal" home decor and gift store is opening at Wheeler Park in the last vacant CRU between the Shoe Company & Nygard.

I am unclear if this is something permanent, or a pop-up store (although I suspect the latter). The key word there is "seasonal". Does this mean that it's only there for the Christmas season, or does this mean that the store's offerings will vary season by season. I'm not sure.

There is one other location that I can find - at East Point in Saint John. https://www.facebook.com/EastPointShoppi...0000.1475076896./895800813857101/?type=3

If this is a permanent store, this would mean that Wheeler Park has succeeded in the rare accomplishment of full occupancy............

Quebec grocery chain Metro Inc. may finally be finalizing to buy pharmacy retailer Jean Coutu Group Inc. for $4.5 billion. It has been talked about for some time now.

Thanks - the more I think of it, the more I believe that "seasonal" in this case means that it sells seasonal merchandise. I think this is a new permanent store for that location. Good stuff........

Do you think we might end up seeing some Metro and Super C stores in the area as a result?

Good news. Glad to see another empty store will be filled

Could. Metro had actually talked in previous years about expansion plans, and since we see so many Quebec chains open in Atlantic Canada We could see Metro as a Competitor to Sobeys, and Superstore.

Also if I'm not mistaken Metro was Competing with Sobeys, and another chain when Atlantic Coop was going bankrupt. So it might be a second attempt at the Atlantic Canadian market.

Just a Christmas pop-up store - nothing to get too excited about.

Regardless, CF Champlain management has apparently confirmed that Sleep Country is going into the plaza at 9 Champlain Street (where Swiss Chalet was).

I'm shocked to see that the Avalon Mall location in St. John's is being shuttered. This reportedly was a high performing store. I presume this has to do with supply chain management.

Regent Mall and Champlain Place locations are still safe, but it seems to me that the grim reaper is sharpening his scythe in preparation for more prey...........

The Celebrate store in Saint John is open year round (We've been to it twice over the summer).

It's sort of like a Christmas Discounters meets Wheatons.

Yeah, I figured it out that Celebrate is a new permanent store at Wheeler Park. My comment was directed towards "Just Cozy", which is a seasonal store at Champlain Place. It was there last year too. It'll be gone by January......

Yep.....I'd be shocked if Regent and Champlain make it to spring after the Xmas $$$ numbers are counted

If Moncton and Freddy can keep positive numbers, and Halifax stays open, then the NB stores might survive; they'll still be in the middle of the supply chain leading to Halifax, so it won't be as expensive to keep them open (unlike Saint John's which seems to be cut due to being at the end of a long chain).

If their numbers aren't good enough, or if Halifax gets cut, then the NB stores would be cut and Sears won't be supplying anything east of Quebec City or so.

I would hazard a guess that the cost of shipping directly ties into the St.John's store closing. Even if it were high performing in comparison to other Sears locations, the high performance may only be reflected in its gross sales.

I highly suspect we will lose 1 of the NB Sears, if not both and they would keep Halifax as a regional store.

There are some hot and heavy rumours out there that Simons will take over the Sears lease at Halifax Shopping Centre in 2018-19. This would fit in with HSC's aspirations of being the regional fashion mall for Atlantic Canada.

If this rumour is correct, then I agree that all Sears locations in Atlantic Canada will disappear. I think Sears would require at least three Maritime locations to justify the expense of maintaining the regional supply chain.

I really think Sears is in it's death throws anyway. If you look at the list of most recent announced store closings, it includes locations in some heavy duty regional malls (Avalon, Polo Park, Scarborough Town Centre, Pointe Claire). Sears isn't just cutting the fat now, they are busily sawing into sinew and bone as well........

I was looking into the announced closures, and have only seen there full scale big box stores, and only 1 furniture store despite more stores being on the chopping block like the pick-up locations that are Sears only there shared locations, and even majority of there Sears Furniture having closed down, and Sears stores have added the stock to there full fledged stores. Most of those stores are also on the chopping block.

I still say Sears Canada should have re-branded Simpsons, and become Super Centre styled big box stores it would have been the only way for the brand to stay open, and relevant in Canada. I do believe.

Job posting for lululemon at Champlain Place in Dieppe.

https://info.lululemon.com/careers/store-jobs/key-leader-023253

This may just be a seasonal store, but we'll see. If the sales are strong enough, perhaps they would make it permanent.

I was surprised to see Fairview Mall on that list; that's a really big Sears store.
