Any angle other than directly north or directly south this already looks incredible. I think the north and south views will be "fixed" by the spire. Currently looks a touch too stumpy because of how wide it is, but the wide spire mitigates that, in my opinion.

The only redeeming quality the tower has is that it's tall and it connects to the Suburban Station concourse. The design isn't innovative not is it cutting edge, IMHO! It looks like it was designed from the 80's. The old Center City Tower proposal was a better looking tower than this monstrosity. And yes, most people in this thread is going to attack me but the CITC does mimic a lot of the former ACC's amenities (mall, spire, LEED certification). Wish this tower could've been the ACC, but I don't control what goes on in this city so

agreed.

A 21st century technology super factory, with a nice hotel and restaurant at the top. We needed something like this.

Quote:
“This is a very special project,” Norman Foster commented. “It is an opportunity to create a unique and sustainable model for mixed-use, high density development, which uniquely combines spaces for high tech research and development with restaurants, gardens, fitness facilities and a significant public reception space – a window on Philadelphia.
“At ground level this ‘urban room’ embraces the city; it opens the building to the public and anchors it as a vital new neighborhood. It also links directly into the below ground public transport system. Above this, the highly flexible loft-like spaces and studios are designed for a dynamic way of working – an engine for the city’s evolution as the kind of leading technology hub presently associated with Silicon Valley.

Don't they need to jump the crane soon to finish the spire?

Do we know if they've moved on after assessing that cracking in the spire's steel?

I thought there was a 1-2 month delay with resuming the spire until the cracks were assessed and new steel delivered (if necessary)

Based on the project plan that was posted somewhere earlier in the thread, the spire (at least framing) should have been done by now, so I'm assuming it'll be mid October at this point.

I heard expected completion time is still the same, but topping off may be later.

I don't disagree but I want to see how the building turns out before passing judgement. I think the spire will make a difference. Not sure how much of a difference to offset what is currently very wide tower. We shall see...

I'll second that, but to my tastes that's actually a compliment. For me it doesn't get better than One Liberty Place and BNY Mellon (figurines of both are even on my shelf at work). So it is exciting seeing how well the new centerpiece tower of the city fits in with the existing buildings.

Is it just reflections, or are they testing lighting? The zig zags on east side looked lit just now as I drove by. Could've just been reflections.

Just reflections of the sunlight. At certain times it really does look like lighting with how bright they diagonals get though.

Disagree 100%

This is a very European design... very Norman Foster design. His towers don't sit well with everybody... and I happen to like that. I could see this tower in London or in Germany.

I've noticed that as well; at certain times and when the sky is partly cloudy, the metal zip zags just jump out at you, amazing. I have to wonder if such a dramatic look was intended or did we just luck out. Since the rest of the metal isn't up its hard to say how the whole building under similar conditions will look when finished, but right now, to my eye, in that light the top looks weak.
Some day it will be finished!

Exactly - most notably the Heron Tower in London

http://www.costar.co.uk/en/assets/news/2015/September/Anbang-withdraws-from-750m-Heron-Tower-buy/

And the Commerzbank Tower in Frankfurt:

And now Philadelphia almost has its own version. Heron was done by Kohn Pedersen Fox (my bad).

Also noticing how the verticle fins (or ribs?) between each glass panel on the north and south sides change the color and texture depending on viewing angle and lighting. It's more complex than a smooth window wall. (Except the bands at the top of the office and hotel sections).
