Yes, they could make a zoning just for gas stations. We all know Gregor & Co will do anything to advnce their agenda, including banning nat gas and driving up everybody's heating costs.

That evil man will do whatever it takes to destroy this city and turn it into a one per-center playground for the rich.

Ridiculous with 270,000 vehicles registered in the CoV that stations are being shut down so quickly to make a quick real estate buck.

Looking at the above posts, and thinking about my once-quaint home town ... what IS Gregor & Crew's agenda for this city. What is the profit in making it a rich playground? The motive?
We all know gigantic swaths of it were sold out to HK's Concord Pacific, so does Concord have the city in their pocket, feeding them goodies and perks, or what?
And what about people on modest salaries? Where are they supposed to live? Are they supposed to commute from Yale or Boston Bar?
What is Vision Vancouver's agenda anyway? I'm curious, I'm suspicious, and I'm worried.

What's going on with the Esso on Davie? Last I heard it was listed for sale by colliers but I couldn't find it anywhere listed on their site.

The thing is will the existing stations increased traffic negate the increase in real estate value of the land.

There's still many sites that had stations that closed in what the 90's/early 00's that still have not been touched. The former Shells downtown come to mind.

Yes of course. He's the mayor and he should be 120% responsible. Backward city knows how to protect Viewcones but let gas startions slip away one by one? Even if free market is to be blamed, shouldn't the City be anticipating this with the huge land value increases the past decade? What is the City doing to make it easier for future residents to switch to EVs? Is the City providing big EV charginbg areas for future residents? Nada, nothing. They only think that everyone should start biking.

So yeah, Gregor IS responsible.

Not sure if I missed an announcement, but I was passing by Lansdowne and the old target space is getting some action. Looks like a tenant has been found? All the red is bring painted green now.

Picture is my own.

Opening next summer - and filling the south-east anchor spot vacated by the Target flop in April 2015 - will be the city’s third and newest T & T Supermarket.

The deal to bring in T & T, which specializes in Asian produce, as Lansdowne’s latest anchor has been in the works for more than a year and is a huge boost to the centre, according to the mall’s marketing manager Bronwyn Bailey.

T & T - which has 23 stores nationwide, including at Richmond’s Yaohan Center and Hollybridge Way — will occupy the 74,000-square-foot, first floor of the former Target and Zellers store.

...

Bailey added that the second floor of the unit in question is still vacant, saying that “nothing is certain yet; it will depend, perhaps, on who would like to fit in (with T & T).”

Thought I'd do a count of the remaining gas stations in the COV (ie. after this current batch is sold). I did this quickly so it's possible I missed one somewhere. I didn't include the last Esso downtown as I assume it'll be gone soon. Has the Chevron at 39th & Dunbar closed yet? It was sold to Wesgroup previously - I didn't include it either.

West Side
Chevron = 5
Petro Canada = 5
Shell = 6
Esso = 6
Husky = 2
Other = 0
Total = 24

East Side
Chevron = 12
PetroCan = 8
Shell = 5
Esso = 6
Husky = 4
Other = 5
Total = 40

City Wide
Chevron = 17
PetroCan = 13
Shell = 11
Esso = 12
Husky = 6
Other = 5
Total = 64

I think this is a smart move by Chevron. I would argue that the city is still somewhat oversaturated, and Chevron still has the most locations, even after these recent sales. Wouldn't be surprised to see some other stations sold by other companies. Especially on the West Side in locations that are intersected by only one major road, instead of the usual two.

I think gas stations in industrial zones like SW Marine and SE Marine Drive will remain.

Yowza !

A 74,000 sq ft T&T?

EDIT: The story only mentions Yaohan and Oval stores - guess President's Plaza closed?

Yes. Muji has a door that can access to outside but I think that is only for emergency exit.

I am a bit disappeared the store didn't include a Muji Cafe. The outside area would have been a good patio area to sit and enjoy some of the good food similar to what is being offered in Muji store in Asia like Hong Kong.

I walked by Muji Saturday at 8:30am. People are already lining up outside the store waiting for it to open in 1.5 hours.
By 9am, the line up have stretched to outside the mall.

Gee, I can't imagine why they changed their name from Zero Waste Market!

I checked out the media event for MUJI yesterday.

Some interesting facts - the Metrotown store is the largest in Canada at over 7,000 sq ft.

They plan to open between 3-5 stores in the Lower Mainland and are planning to open stores in Alberta as well.

Their 150 sq ft. popup had stronger sales than some of their retail locations.

I think the store will do really well in our market.
