What Starbucks and other chains provide is consistency. You know from one location to another what you're getting. They also provide convenience, though not in Regina. Their real specialty isn't brewed coffee, it's the infinite variation on flavoured coffees, lattes and blended drinks. Ordering a flavored latte or frappuccino at Starbucks results in a much better drink than at say, Atlantis.

Personally I find Brewed Awakening to be massively overrated and is really not to be celebrated. Some of the independent places are good (fix. Coffee) and some are awful (looking at you Naked Bean).

As in all things, preferences vary.
I do appreciate Starbucks consistency, and if the chance happens it's not to the customers liking, they will just remake. But for instance, Second Cup, (which I am surprised hasn't figured out a new downtown location after the Cornwall Centre location closed) has a far better London Fog than Starbucks, so really, options are the best and competition which is good.

This! Totally agree on all points.

I've been going to Brewed since the first one opened so maybe my perspective is different. Prince of Wales was a stand alone for a while.

Interesting link about Starbucks coffee being intentionally like that.

I just had the sad realization of how basic I am at the prospect of having Starbucks, Yoga Mala, H&M and Lululemon right next to each other...

So, November? Are they converting part of the existing facility, or have they begun an addition?

They're just going to convert a theatre. And it'll be fake IMAX.

Meaning digital only? I assume the screen and resolution must meet certain specs

Yeah it's digital. The screen will have to meet specs but the nature of the building means it'll never match true imax.

My original thought was that they would transform 2 side-by-side theatres into 1 IMAX theatre. But I don't know if the time frame allows for that.

Hopefully that means the Kramer IMAX will continue to get the occasional 70mm blockbuster like the Star Wars films

It'll be one of the "fake IMAX" that Aziz Ansari got worked up about in 2009.
