"Two Vancouver locations fell within the top 10 worst bottlenecks and were identified as producing the slowest driving speeds in the country." Guess what? One of the stretches is W. Georgia between Seymour and Denman.

Why take away a road parallel to one of the worst bottleneck stretches in this entire country? Traffic engineer, what do you say?
Now to provide some context:

As others have pointed out, that stretch of Georgia was already congested before they closed that block of Robson. Re-opening it to car traffic would do little to change anything

Yes Vancouver has 2 in the top 10, 9th and 10th. Toronto has 5 and Montreal has 3.

Yes it is. Like Safeway it's rental, submitted two years ago. It has 108 rental units in a 22-storey tower that includes 27 two and three bed family units. A few more details here.

Well, they sure made short work of that little old apartment block at the back of the 1188 Bidwell site. Here are some before and after pics.

A couple more of the 1188 Bidwell site demo and another look at the rendering of what's supposed to be built there. I expect that the building with the peaked roof that's still there will be gone soon. It's just to the west of the liquor store.

I was wondering if they'd do something like painting a big mural - with it blue, perhaps some fishes and Orcas will come next?

Well it's somewhat river shaped and they we're there marking up some locations on the asphalt so it looks like more is to come.

My guess is some sort of aquatic creatures swimming through a river, but we'll see.

I think the ginko leaves are the extent of the temporary design.
I wonder why they didn't paint a background colour that matches the adjacent pavers?

So glad to see West End at Davie seeing some major actions now after a hiatus of decades.

Oh wow. That's earlier than I was expecting. I guess the liquor store would be closing soon as well

Yes, Wednesday is the liquor store's last day.

The demolition going on to the west of the liquor store is further along now with the last building levelled. Imagine in a year or so with maybe 4 cranes on this one block of Davie. The one on the old London Drugs parking lot across the street, maybe 2 cranes on the Safeway/liquor store site and one crane at the corner of Davie/Bidwell.

The Empire Landmark is gradually being covering in marketing for Landmark on Robson.

Does anyone have the date of the hotel closure? I know Cloud 9 is closing next month.
