And YYC-LHR and YYC-FRA will revert back to 789s next summer.

All up a pretty big whack to capacity next summer (except FRA).

If I remember correctly, weren't both LHR and FRA originally suppose to be 789s this summer too, but were upgraded to the 777s earlier this year?

Considering how well NRT is doing this summer, I suspect it too will end up being boosted to a 787 next summer as well.

Anyone have any visibility on how Hainan has done? If we're going to have more Asia flights / carriers, we'd need them to succeed.

Very few 788s in the AC fleet and they aren't getting anymore.

The 788 for YUL-NRT had to come from somewhere. However you are right... it's very possible they will shift things around.

YVR-PVG is back to 77W next summer at the moment as well.

They too are switching back a 332.

Maybe they'll put a 787-9 on the route next year? It appeared they considered it this summer too even, and it did operate the route in the early days of summer too.

Also will AC even have enough 767s to operate a daily YYZ-YYC-NRT-YYC-YYZ as they begin to phase them out?

As for HU, they are also doing very well. They had briefly intended to upgrade to the 787-9 for next summer, but ended up backtracking to the 332. I'd say they are operating at about 80% full give or take. I see them sticking around until either AC or WS launches flights to China in the future (well if they do).

Will they even have 767s left in the fleet by that point, aside from Rouge?

AC has been pretty aggressive about retiring them as they are 25-30 years old.

They will still have mainline 763s into 2019. This may be one of the few remaining 763 mainline routes.

Don't take my word as gospel as like any business these models can change. All I'm saying is this is the plan that is in place now.

I would hope HU is flying > 80% loads at this time of year. It's the slower months that could make or break it. Chinese airlines are not usually known for operating routes seasonally so the route will have to prove itself as an overall profitable year-Round route.

As far as I am aware Hainan still has a couple of unused frequencies available to them in the current assigned allotment to Chinese carriers. If the route is doing very well I'd assume they would be adding frequencies. Perhaps the current offering is sufficient.

Air Canada's current fleet plan has 8 767s remaining by December 31, 2017, and 5 by December 31, 2018.

Anything that is posted right now on AC's site for next summer I would take with a grain of salt. They usually carbon copy what they had planned from this summer and is really only in April that its is finalized.

Strong chance YYC-LHR/FRA are both 77W and 77L again. Especially for cargo.

Then I'd expect to see YYZ-NRT non stop as well. But that's gone. YVR-PVG was a 789 this summer but showing as a 77W next summer. And YYC-NRT now a 788. So definitely not a carbon copy.

They tend to finalise long haul international first then North America. And longnhaul is finalised way before April subject to minor tweaks.

But like I said... yes there are definite possibilities this will change.

Does AC have any options on wide bodies that they could still exercise over the next year that may impact their ability to serve a city such as Calgary or is their fleet plan essentially gospel?

Any idea when/if they will exercise these options?

Widebody options must be exercised 12-18 months before delivery, so the earliest AC could get is Q4-2018 delivery slot.

That said, AC has made a change of plans for their fleet over the next 5 years. Growth will slow considerably and AC has removed their cost optomization targets because they will not expand as much as previously thought.

First change was reduction in max9 aircraft from 28 to 15. I also think AC has gone quiet on Rouge fleet expansion until WS Dreamliners are figured out schedule wise.

I was not aware of that, and this is pretty significant. That's a reduction of almost half the order, are the remainder just deferred?

On my recent flight I discovered that 30 inches of seat pitch (in what appeared to be United's new seats) is the limit to my comfort. It was barely enough room until the guy in front of me reclined the seat, and then it was jammed against the seat for the rest of the flight. I purchased Economy Plus for the flight home and was much more comfortable.

Here's hoping that 30 or even 29 inches isn't going to be the new norm everywhere!

Also, customs was super smooth in both directions this time. I was very pleased with the whole process in Calgary.
