^ If someone wanted photos for nefarious purposes, I think it's pretty well a given that they could do it on the sly without being noticed. It's not really the guys wandering around in the open with their big DSLR cameras that anyone needs to be worried about.

If GWL is that worried about people up to no good using pictures of their campus, they might want to have a word with Google Street View.

Security guards, IMHO, tend not to be the brightest bunch. There may be exceptions however.

Indeed. On one of the Bomber forums, a poster said he was told by a security guard that he could not go on the field with his bottle of water after the game as he might spill some on the turf. He asked the security guard what does Bomber management do when it rains and the entire field gets wet.

The security guard had no response.

My God, if SkyCity or 300 Main get built, how can we ensure this doesn't happen HERE?

Well, there are many buildings around Winnipeg that will have similar cladding to both 300 Main or SkyCity.

The re-clad of 330 St. Mary for example (and the original cladding) seems to use a different type of panel than was used at Grenfell Tower. They showed two pieces of metal with insulation sandwiched in between on the news for Grenfell. That is not what's up on 330 St. Mary. It appears to be a much thicker panel; with glass/metal, then a thick layer of insulation into the interior, with another metal backing. Similar, but doesn't seem to be the same.

I'm not an expert, but maybe some of our building / architectural folks can chime in.

Also, that same tower in Dubai caught fire 3 years ago.

Our friends in Dubai wont live in anything taller than 4 stories. Construction standards aren't quite as stringent as here in Canada.

The exceptions all become real police. Even those with below average intelligence can be corrections officers, and even those who are too stupid to work in jail can work border security. If you can't make it in those two low-bar professions, you truly belong amongst the dregs of society: dishing out parking tickets if you're especially heartless, drooling on yourself in a 24hr Shoppers if you're especially brainless. And, I suppose, hassling photographers outside corporate offices if you especially lack self-awareness.

Next time you watch Die Hard you'll see that "Karl" is the real hero.

Anything like that in Canada would need be have cladding built with non-combustible materials, including ONLY Roxul type insulation - no foam, or rigid insulation.

You can see the new Roxul insulation at 360 Main before they put the new glazing up.

It's a Winnipeg Thing!

Help from bystanders aided Winnipeg police in placing one man into custody on Tuesday following a grocery store robbery.

Around 3:30 p.m., police were called to an incident in the 500 block of Main Street where bystanders had apprehended a man wielding a knife and disguised in a balaclava.

Police say the man had robbed a grocery store in the area a short time earlier. A store employee had tried to keep the suspect from running away but the man was able to break through a window and flee.

But not for long.

Police then say a bystander tripped the fleeing suspect, causing the stolen money and cigarettes to fall to the ground. It was then that another unknown individual stole the stolen goods.

“I guess there’s no honour among thieves,” said police spokesperson Const. Rob Carver on Wednesday. “It’s just a convoluted series of events.”

Only place in Winnipeg that statement would feel right is Wellington/Old Tuxedo area. I guess your home could be luxurious, while the neighbourhood is not. Anyways, glad this discussion is in the expresso thread!
There are some pretty meh houses among the nice ones in Tuxedo.

I'd definitely consider Kildonan Drive, or parts of it, luxurious. Some large, gorgeous houses with nice river lots and a huge density of greenery.

Same with East St Paul... maybe it is looked down upon as Suburbia, but there are too many nice, huge, luxurious houses in nice pockets of space to say it is otherwise.

Easy. Code.

We have standards and monitor our construction much more intensely.

That's actually hilarious.

You're working up there? I thought you quit your job and became a hermit???

Are you gonna go see Tom when he comes to town so they can name the highway after him?
