Just Starting: Surrey Central

In Progress: Commercial–Broadway, Joyce–Collingwood, Metrotown

Completed: Main Street–Science World, New Westminster, Scott Road

Any other station work done will be in the 'cheap and cheerful' category.

I agree that Columbia could do with a make over. The only way any major renovations, improvements or line extensions get done is by getting approved funding by the provincial government, and to lesser degree the municipalities. Writing to the new NDP and Green Party government in support and recommendation of improvements is a positive way to encourage some action.

I seem to recall that the station design is such that expansion on the east side was to build a mirror opposite of the west side.
Of course, that was drafted over 30 years ago so don't keep your hopes up given the recent history of following the ideas of the original designs.

Yes, there are a few more stations that will be upgraded once this current set is finished. These improvements are as-of-yet unfunded so there hasn't been any formal announcement for them, but they are part of the larger Expo Line upgrade strategy. (Think of the current improvements as a first phase.)

- The big ones are Columbia and Edmonds, which will see a significant overhaul.
- Burrard will receive a new eastern entrance.
- Surrey Central will undergo phase 2 of its expansion.
- Stadium will be upgraded; unsure if the platform extension across Expo Boulevard is still in the cards.
- Other stations will receive new up and down escalators as well as other minor upgrades.
- Commercial-Broadway will get a new entrance from Grandview Highway.

Other future improvements that are somewhat unrelated would be "phase 3" of Commercial-Broadway, which is the sixth platform on the west side of the Expo Line station. And the future Waterfront HUB which is the grand daddy of all but may be quite a ways out.

Ooh, I like the new graphics/font on the East 10th Ave sign! Way better than the too-white Expo Line signs used today.

Those are old, from the last Commercial-Broadway renovation in 2008-2009. It's the only station with that style of signage.

I noticed that they had cut away part of the plywood wall on the side of the westbound track dividing the current track and future third platform, presumably to make space to build form work and eventually pour the platform's concrete (assuming these are a slab in the first place).

Darn it. I find the Canada Line signage way better than the Millenium/Expo, which as I said before I think has too much white on it. Oh well...

Which is too bad, cus it's actually readable and not confusing.

I still think it was a missed opportunity that they didn't go with glass to cover the new platform.

Looks like the new bus loop outside of Richmond-Brighouse station is starting to take shape. A lot more concrete got poured recently.

Agreed. It's not just the white background, but the dark blue strip on the top combined with the expo blue, millenium yellow, and evergreen green strips on the bottom. Simply removing the dark blue strip would be an improvement.
Still, the bottom strips don't always have the associated line names, and thus can lack meaning without context. Naming the lines/termini in the same dark blue, but with coloured train circles beside them, on platform signage would be better imo.

^ And from that second example, it looks like the same style of signage from commercial-broadway was used in renovations of the downtown stations around the same time.

you have to really resize those. I'm on a 20 inch monitor and they don't even fit on the screen. i had to go down to about 60% zoom level.

wow big change from June 19 to June 21. share, though, the roof if just corrugated metal. cheapens the whole look because the metal tubes are so modern, and corrugated steal is very un-modern. glass would have been nice, but would be a pain to keep clean. wood would have maybe worked.

also, anyone know why are there those red columns? any particular reason?
