For what it's worth...

I just received a City Planning letter about Il Caffe (the coffee house for Acne Studios) at 9th and Broadway applying for a beer and wine license. I remember reading a post here that Acne was looking to get out of their lease. Not sure if that was a fact...but I would be surprised if Acne would keep their in house cafe if they weren't going to be here for a long stay. I hope this is a good sign as I expect the area to boom over the next few years with retail expansion in the Palmer buildings and the HUGE Broadway Trade Center opening in the near future.

GAP building unwrapped.... Looked great at first until you examine more closely, the flat bricks are panels poorly joined together, the columns do not align with the upper levels and have a funky transition included.
The new windows look fantastic! Overall a huge improvement, I suspect they had a contractor double as the architect...

When I went on a hard hat tour of WG in June 2016, the broker said the focus was NOT on retail but more on restaurants filling in the commercial retail spaces on the ground floor. The ONE EXCEPTION is the lone retail space at Wilshire/Fig, which may become an actual retail store instead of another restaurant. However, it would have to be a pretty popular retail store as the foot traffic patterns STOP going north along Figueroa at 7th Street, so it would have to be a retailer that will draw people to go up another block north, which could make it difficult for many businesses to survive. Otherwise, it would probably have to be another restaurant as eateries tend to become destinations regardless of foot traffic patterns.

Acne Studios would have to be doing REALLY REALLY BAD to want to get out of their lease because they got a steal on their rent. So highly doubt that's the case unless the brand itself is already becoming irrelevant, which I also don't think is the case. I believe there are still a lot of people who want to buy their clothes. I met a girl in Vancouver a few summers ago who told me she wanted to shop at the new Acne Studios in LA when she visits.

Not specifically about DTLA, but very relevant to it, so I'm posting here as well as the Metro thread. Everyone should read this, it gives a great overview as to why housing is so expensive in LA.

Aside from writing our representatives, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to push for changes that address the issues outlined in this post? Does anyone know to what degree they are being addressed through the zoning re-write?

Its a great view, but its not right.. How is US Bank on the left of the Wilshire Grand and Watermarke?

^ Looks like that's a full wall mirror on the left. If you look closely, you can see the reflections of the two medicine balls next to the window. So while it looks like they're cheating the skyline, it's actually a pretty detailed and accurate rendering.

Can they please just add another 25 feet so it breaks 1,000? We have another 3 years before we see shovels in the ground so hopefully they'll sort that out. It's a long way away but at least it's something to look forward to.
