2. The deal broke down over control. The Braves wanted it. Fulton/Atlanta wanted it. Fulton/Atlanta had competition with Cobb. The Braves decided to go with the government partner who would allow them to control the development. This is where the use of tax dollar issue gets put into play and there are sound governmental reasons why Fulton/Atlanta wanted to keep control. There are also sound business reasons why the Braves would want it. (Point number 1 above that Fulton/Atlanta never met earlier promises is one of them.)

3. The fact that what is getting built now looks like what was proposed earlier does not show that the Braves were the problem. Remember, the Braves argument was that they needed to control the development/own the lots to make it happen. How is it happening? Fulton/Atlanta sold the lots to Georgia State who owns/controls the development and is partnering with someone in much the same way the Braves partnered with someone in Cobb. So, you could say that the fact something is happing now, AFTER the lots were sold to Georgia State, shows the Braves were right and Fulton/Atlanta was the problem.

4. Hindsight is 20/20 but if the Braves were offered an opportunity to buy the lots and stadium for some portion of the $30M that Fulton/Atlanta got out of Georgia State there is a good chance the Braves would still be there. They probably would have paid more. The Braves leaving de-valued the land forcing the sale. Fulton/Atlanta never took this into consideration in the negotiations, the Braves did.

BTW, I say all of this as a critic of the Braves moving to Cobb. I think in the long run it will prove to be shortsighted. That doesn't mean I can't understand the reasons they left.
Also keep in mind the other 6 times in 3 years the city didn't hold their end in meeting deadlines.

There were some personalities involved. Remember Hans Utz?

I think "Smyrna Sh*tholes" is the name the Braves should go with myself.

Regardless, no version of the facts denies leaving the city was a unilateral decision on the Braves part. The Braves did not even wait to hear the city's response on the demands they gave. They did not give the city a chance to counter Cobb's offer (not that the city would or should have).

If you are looking for the responsible party of the Braves leaving the city, it is clearly the Braves.

Now, the question of if this move is better for the Braves venture into real estate development is up in the air. But it is certainly looking like the Braves are missing out on a large wave development in South Downtown that they no doubt would have been a part if they had chosen to stay in the city.

Dude, get it over it. If you are not going to support the Braves, then don't. All of this name calling only hurts you. Some of you need to move on with life. And if you just decide to go to a MLB game, you have the option to attend without going out of town, and even better, not leaving the metropolitan area. People can go to Stone Mountain, Six Flags, etc. and pretend as if going to a Braves game is no longer in their vocabulary. #Southerners that live in the past

Braves home attendance so far in the 2017 season is over 30,000. Fourteenth place in attendance in MLB...not bad. I've been thinking Liberty Media is looking to cash out over the next year or so if they can find a buyer.

You need to stop taking it so personal. That name is a direct reference to the article posted by Libertarian. This is a development forum so if this big wave of development in south downtown continues to move forward, you can expect to have this decision by the Braves to leave the city continually called into question as a wise decision. This is something that will be evolving for years and decades and will continue to be a point of discussion.

True, it is not bad for a normal year. But it is not impressive for the first year in a new stadium that normally gets you a large attendance boost. The attendance is still well below the ~38k a game (3M for the year) the Braves were hoping for this year. But agree that Liberty Media will be looking to cash out in the coming years.

My thoughts too on Liberty selling soon and why they are building up their portfolio. I think attendance is solely based on people wanting to see the new ballpark this year. Next year should tell the real story when the newness will wear off.

No Joke. I really feel the NCR project is starting to feel "iconic" regardless of the height. I love the glass and wide sidewalks - 1st class.

This will look incredibly dated in 20 years. It reminds of some buildings from the early 90's that have not stood up to the test of time.

This shit needs to stop, and it needs to stop now. Many of us come from other regions, but this is our adopted home. You need to just stay in L.A. with this prickish attitude. Please.

How about you take it down about 10 notches there bud. Scania didn't say anything near deserving of your vulgarity and insanity. Just because he is bi-coastal doesn't mean his word(s)/critique(s) are of less value than anyone else here and especially yours. Go play with your............fireworks and cool off.
