"Canada 150 sign in downtown Regina is about celebrating country, says city"
"Across Canada, cities are celebrating the 150th birthday of the country in many different ways. Part of that celebration includes a large three-dimensional sign that has been placed in 19 Canadian cities, including Regina.
The Canada 150 signs were created by the federal government and are modelled after the 3D Toronto sign. In Regina, the sign is located in Victoria Park in the northeast corner at 12th Avenue and Scarth Street.
Most capital cities received one, and a few others that are larger centres in Canada, that are included as well.” Non-capital cities such as Vancouver, Banff, Calgary, Toronto and Niagara Falls, all received signs. Regina is the only location in Saskatchewan to receive a Canada 150 sign.
In Regina, the sign’s location in Victoria Park was chosen because it provided the best opportunity for residents interact with it, which includes taking selfies, something that is highly encouraged.
The sign measures 1.82 metres by 10.97 metres, and weigh more than 2,700 kilograms. At night, each letter is illuminated with coloured lights. The size, lights and three-dimensional attributes of the sign are designed to make it highly noticeable, in order to encourage residents and tourists to interact with it..."
I can attest that the famous TORONTO sign (with City Hall twin towers as backdrop) is
hugely popular among tourists and visitors to the city.
Perhaps no coincidence that Regina's sign, which will also be popular, was placed in front of its own twin towers. Anyone have a nighttime pic?
