Saw this in the news last night. NIMBYs are out again. They're opposing 4 storey units but their placards are very misleading.

^ I guess showing a measly 4 storey apartment building on your placards won't win you much sympathy... better to conjure up some nonexistent highrise instead.

Promising news in the story, though:

The developer said the poster is false and misleading, and the zoning allows for a four-storey building.

In an email to CTV Winnipeg Saturday, Landstar Development Corporation said the apartment only uses two thirds of the legally allowed density, and reduced the number of units to alleviate traffic concerns.

So this isn't stained brick? They just painted it? That seems insane to me. They're going to be up there every few years repainting.

I think that's a infinite improvement.

Whites and grays go well with sharp, squared and boring shapes. It looks much newer now and it's way better than brown/red.

Maybe another colour could have been a touch better, but only a little. Darker colours would have likely highlighted the flaws more as well as been more expensive. I'd say we should be grateful it was updated... assuming that was optional for them.

I on the other hand always appreciated that complex BECAUSE it had some colour. Almost everything else is that drab biege or grey. Now, more grey.

It may be in WSP but it's still inside the perimeter on existing infrastructure. Essentially an infill for that area AND it's zoned for it already so I don't understand what the problem is? This zoning was there before the new houses went up in the area so I don't feel bad for the area residents who will see this "massive" traffic increase in their area. I like the plan personally.

Agreed. If the infrastructure is already there, go for it. Plus it's a lot better than if it fell just outside city limits.

Fair perspective.

But I personally think that colour was horrible, because you can play that uniqueness card on 360 Main which looked terrible in poop-green despite being one of very few in that colour.

I'll have to drive by and see it up close, but it looks like an improvement.

It was colour and it was a great colour. I remember my first time in Minneapolis. First thing I noticed was all the different colours of the high rises. I knew we were missing something here. And now this happened. How disappointing.

Neighbors had shag carpet in that color growing up, but I had curtains in my bedroom that color, as well as an accent chair in our living room. Our shag carpet was dark brown.
