Good news about the pizza joint. Hopefully they're better than California pizza kitchen. I'm actually surprised that place has lasted so long... now if they could only get the goddamn escalators to work for more than three hours straight they might be able to get more stores in there. Seriously what is the deal with the escalators there? They replaced the steps on all of them. They have literally stripped the ones in front of megaplex down two times and have been unable to get them running properly... now they are stripping down the ones going into the parking garage for a second or third time. Why don't they just rip those POSs out of there and put in something that works. :/

All I can find is that the men's shelter is going to south salt lake, women's shelter on 700, and family shelter in the people's freeway district.... If so this is great news for down town... kind of makes me want to get a Condo at gateway or the Rio Grande area while they're cheap... once they close that shelter it should be an instant property value bump...

WalletHub compiled this report by comparing more than 150 cities nationwide based on 23 metrics, including availability of entry-level jobs and monthly average starting salary.

Some more interesting facts from the report:
• Salt Lake City ranked first in both the “professional opportunities” and the “quality of life” rankings. The former ranking is based on availability of jobs, job growth and workforce diversity, among other employer-related factors.

• The latter ranking measured cities based on family-friendliness, population growth and share of the population.

• Durham, North Carolina, had the highest monthly average starting salary at $3,909, which is more than double the lowest, $1,447, in Honolulu.

• Nearby Denver finished eighth on the list. Boise secured the 34th spot on the list.

I think the east side of Regent is owned by Property Reserve or City Creek Reserve so no alcohol.

Down to the three homeless resource centers you mentioned. The one west of the Gateway has been scrapped. Not sure the Gateway condos are all that cheap but probably will go up in value if the Gateway comes back from the dead.

I actually just received an email from Dave & Busters. I would say Dave & Busters is a go.

We agree! Although we have a number of approvals, permits and licences to
obtain, Dave & Buster's is coming to Utah! And we're coming to the Gateway

Agreed. The whole thing was uninspiring and underwhelming. I'm sorry to see that all my impressions about Jackie Biskupski as mayor were correct. She has no idea what she's doing.

Thanks for the update. While it is true that Utah has crappy liquor laws, including the 30/70 split. Based on that Utah has large families, and given D&B extensive advertising on Nickelodeon, and the fact that Happy Hours don't exist here, I would think they could stay compliant with the ratio.

My personal theory is that in our legislature there are a number of real estate people. They knew that under the old system of a hidden bar that we would not continue to attract investment from outside restaurant chains, which could then stifle our growth.

Well shit that took a few hours to catch up from March 30th until today.

As for the possibly CCH being located on the SW corner of 100 S and West Temple, I would be fine with any of the three forumers renderings, all of which include retaining the historic structures/facades that now exist on 100 S. That is my biggest beef with the project is that I guarantee that Piskos has no vision to incorporate those buildings into the design. I do hope that if he partners with someone such as DDRM that they will have the vision to incorporate those buildings into the design. Several Council member recently attended a conference regarding preservation and growth so it is on their radar. I hope that the city uses the conditional use approval that would be required for a building as tall as the CCH would need to be on that location, as a way to require the incorporation of those historic buildings.

As for Dave & Busters I know that about 6 or 7 years ago they were working with a firm located in Salt Lake City to explore entering the market. It was their layout, the bar is essentially in the center of the restaurant space, in relation to the Zion Curtain rule that made them decide to not expand into that State at that time. I think the Gateway's focus on entertainment is a perfect fit for a Dave & Busters. I was at the Gateway yesterday and they are putting new framing on the clock tower face. I read an article in Downtown the Magazine, that mentioned they are going to convert the existing clock tower into LED Screens. I really am excited to see the changes coming to The Gateway. I really think that Alta Gateway, Hardware Village and the place on 300 W and N. Temple will really help The Gateway. I read in that same article that the owners already have a lot of new programming scheduled for this year.
