zoning doesn't account for architectural design. UT has a skewed sense of the OMB. They are simply interpreting planning policy. Where the problem lies is that planning policy in this city can be interpreting in so many ways.

In some specific cases, wouldn't architecture be a factor in whether a project gets approved or not?

No. A project won't be rejected because its ugly. A developer will have an easier time at rezoning coming up with a design that pleases the design review panel.

I suppose that this is true in most parts of most cities, but there would be heritage or historic districts here and there where there is a body of some kind that reviews proposals based on aesthetic qualities, no?

I assume you just can't just build what you want (by simply complying with basic zoning) in the old part of Quebec City. For example.

You overlooked his secret weapon: the Hammer of Reno Depot! He may end up getting assistance though from an unexpected southern cousin in the end. I do like the Depends idea!

I know this by far isn't the worst but I can see that project turning into your typical housing project in 5 years... The colours are horrible. Gives a Scarborough feel to the neighborhood.

Place de l'Acadie is actually in Ahuntsic. St-Laurent is on the other side of the A40.

St-Laurent isn't that bad though. The area around Vanier College is quite nice and Bois-Franc is a good example of a well-planned modern suburban neighbourhood.

Ugh....that's a dreary looking place to put some apartment buildings...the hell...

I just realized by looking around...this reminds me of Mississauga, except there wouldn't be random highrises built near a highway without a mall nearby. I got a strong remindance of...the westiest parts of Mississauga....maybe even Meadowvale.
