In other news, here's a rendering of proposed changes to Lawrence Halprin's Heritage Plaza north of the Tarrant County Courthouse. The plaza has been closed for a few years now.

Exclusive: American Airlines details plans for 1.8M SF campus in Fort Worth

Airline giant American Airlines Group Inc. (Nasdaq: AAL) has brought in a development team to begin construction on a new 1.8 million-square-foot headquarters on its nearly 300-acre corporate campus in Fort Worth.

Skipworth, who has worked at American Airlines for nearly 21 years, said the Fort Worth-based airline will have enough room on its campus to house up to 11,000 employees upon completion of the five-building, 1.8 million-square-foot addition.

Upon completion of the project, American Airlines plans to relocate 7,300 employees from four locations throughout North Texas to the campus.

American Airlines brought in Fort Worth-based Crescent Real Estate Holdings LLC, who is working with legendary architect Cesar Pelli through his firm, Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects.

“We think they will have a very innovative design,” Goff said. “We are not going to win the quantity contest, but we do want to win the quality contest.”

The campus expansion also includes a fitness and wellness center that will be available to all of American Airlines employees. Skipworth said he expects construction could be completed on the center at the same time as the five office buildings.

Construction on the new campus is slated for completion by summer 2019. American Airlines plans to achieve LEED Gold certification with the campus.

That retail portion was intended to be part of a "phase 2." You can still see its foundation in these new renderings.

Probably something you could inquire directly to AA about, because I doubt any of us know this.

Plus I work for a rival airline, so it affects me none.

AA's facilities are approaching 30+ years old at this point for their employees at headquarters, so it was either a new campus or extensive renovations at their existing headquarters. I'd chalk this one up to trying also improve culture as a whole at the airline as well. Southwest has most of their employees on the same campus, this does the same thing for AA. I don't think they released a budget for the project, but they are getting some money from Fort Worth for the relo.

Millions of square feet of office, retail and homes planned for Allen project

"We think we can do 1.5 million to 2 million square feet of office," said Hines managing director Drew Steffen. "We want to lead with office."

The project - called The Strand - will also have apartments, 300,000 square feet of retail and a 10-acre greenbelt along Watters Creek.

Steffen said Hines, working with architect Gensler, is designing both single and multi-tentnat office buildings up to 12 stories tall.

"We are designing multi tenant buildings so we are ready to go," he said. "We are going to push for some corporate build to suit deals.

"But I'm not going with speculative buildings," Steffen said.

"Our mission is to bring the corporate campus," said Dan Bowman, who heads Allen's economic development corporation.

The initial phase of the project will include about 200,000 square feet of office space, 80,000 square feet of retail space, urban-style living options, and a greenbelt with park space and structured parking.

The next two phases will total the build out of 1.5 million square feet of office space with up to 300,000 square feet of living and additional residential homes.

In all, the mixed-use development will bring 10-acres of greenbelt and trail system to the city.

Plano's Shops at Willow Bend to add new seven-story office building

A Dallas-based development firm — Encore Enterprises — plans to build a new office building next to The Shops at Willow Bend in Plano in hopes of meeting some of the demand for high-quality office space in the North Texas city.

The seven-story, 200,000-square-foot Class A office tower will sit adjacent to the mall's food court and will be integrated into Dillard's parking garage. The building could accommodate up to 800 employees

The office building is part of The Shops at Willow Bend $125 million expansion and will add much-needed Class A office space to the market, said Barry Smith, general manager for the property.

The would-be office tenants would have access to the mall's yet-to-be announced upscale, 30,000-square-foot health and fitness club, as well as the two-level, 60,000-square-foot restaurant district.

Pinnacle Bank Place on Lancaster is complete. The building was built in partnership with the city and is the 1st building located on the former I30 right of way which has been vacant for several years. Many more developments are expected along this stretch in the coming years. This building contains ground floor retail, (currently the only tenant is the bank) and 130 apartment units above. A 5 level garage was built behind the building for tenants and the retail.

LBJ Freeway office complex could get hotel, apartments

The owners of LBJ Financial Center -- a California-based real estate investment partnership -- are asking the City of Dallas for approval to construct additional buildings on the site for apartments and a hotel.

Two large surface parking lots are located on the east and west side of the office buildings.

City planners are recommending that the proposal to convert the office campus into a mixed-use project be approved.
