Someone, somewhere, has a job to drag-and-drop stock images of people walking, sitting, wheeling, or otherwise just doing stuff in architectural or planning renders.

I would like this job.

Too bad they couldn't drop into any of those containers a useful example of what they will be actually used for. Looks like a derelict industrial site with stock people walking about.

Yeah.. that render makes it look like the containers add nothing to the market (safe for that small stage)... What's the purpose of dropping blank shipping containers in the middle of the byward market?

Who's genius idea was it to put metal containers into historic Byward Market,?

Sad to think someone gets paid to dream up this —. That is one ugly way to present a city to a global audience.

The fencing behind the containers is ugly. Walking down the sidewalk, it's disgusting. Wind-swept garbage and cigarette butts will be collecting along the curbs.

At least it matches the ugly chain link and tarp market stalls that look like they were surplus from Guantanamo.

The market stalls at least look organic to the area. Plus people are generally walking in front between the stalls and storefronts.

I just hope this "Inspiration Village" will inspire the city with the pedestrian potential of that space on York street in the future, and not let it remain a parking lot

I'd like to see a permanent and proper space for the summer stalls there, like this one at the French Market in New Orleans (possibly with a an underground parkade beneath). The space on either side of the old market building could be a carless zone during the warm months. We need to find ways to replace surface parking with more pedestrian space, especially with LRT coming to the area

..

This is spot on. It should have been done twenty years ago.

Why are the containers white? It looks blander than bland. I mean I can hope somebody will graffiti them a little to give them some life. The most disappointing part Id say is that it is all inward facing and cuts itself off from the rest of the market instead of adding to the experience.

Oh noooo!!!

This does not look funky or innovative at all! There are so many great shipping container communities around the world - UrbOttawa posted photos from Shoreditch Boxpark which is great with its shops and restaurants, and there are others, such as Container City in another part of London, or the container artist village in Lisbon (covered with amazing murals/graffiti).

Inspiration Village? Looks like the city is looking for some inspiration here. Seems like corporate logos are the only "art" we'll be seeing on these containers.

So I checked the website and the city is looking for artists (both seasoned professionals and up and comers) to perform at Inspiration Village. But...wait for it...there will be NO COMPENSATION....because apparently this is a such a great opportunity for artists to get exposure. Artists once again being screwed over and made to work for free smh.

I saw the containers when I went to Byward Market yesterday. Total and utter garbage. Makes the place look even more "ghetto" - not a "world-class lively area".

And how many children will be killed by plunging the market into perpetual darkness?

Not going to start complaining about the ghettoness of containers - we haven't seen the final product. And more storefronts is more "world class" for the market than street parking, irrespective of blandness.

That Ottawa sign needs to be reused somewhere in the city once this Inspiration Village is over. Looks nice.

Agreed! Hopefully it wont get disposed of as soon we summer is over. Altough Toronto already has one and these are getting pretty "touristy", at least it's "something" for Ottawa.

I hope that that's not the location of it though... I would expect them to set it up somewhere nicer where you would get a nice view - seeing as it will be the backdrop of many selfies throughout the summer.

What the hell kind of crack are they on?!?!??!? Selfies and pictures taken from one side will have a Tattoo Parlor, a —, a Dive Bar and a Poutine Stand in the background. The other side will have a Dive Bar and the world's ugliest Parking Garage in the background.
