Yeah, that was sarcasm.

makes sense, since there's nothing there that needs to be knocked over first to build a station entrance.

Site may be used as a construction staging area during tunnelling, then build a new building on the lot with all-weather connections to the subway, along with as the public station entrance

From a document on TransLink's Open Bids page regarding Legal Services for upcoming major projects:

Quote:
The [Millennium Line Broadway Extension] Project will be an approximately six-kilometre Advanced Light Rail Transit (“ALRT”) extension to the existing Millennium Line SkyTrain system from its current terminus station at VCC-Clark Station to a new western terminus station at Arbutus Street in Vancouver. The MLBE Project will utilize the same rapid transit technology (ALRT) currently operated by TransLink on its Millennium and Expo lines. The MLBE Project will transition from the elevated station at VCC-Clark to an underground alignment, primarily beneath the Broadway corridor. In total the MLBE Project will include six new stations. All six stations will be underground, with head-house structures similar to those constructed for the Canada Line project.

[...]

Work will continue through 2017 to prepare the MLBE Project for procurement. Approval of all funding is expected before the end of 2017. The MLBE Project procurement process would be initiated as early as late 2017, contingent on TransLink receiving the necessary funding approvals.

Noticed some core drilling today near the Michael's art store.

I doubt there will be a station there - between Cambie and Oak - so perhaps they're getting more samples between the station sites, as well as at the station sites too?

Perhaps the geology under Broadway is somewhat more complex than was originally guessed?

so this SSP thread has been called "Millennium Line - Broadway Extension" since Jun 2007, and only now has the project name become (sorta-officially) "Millennium Line Broadway Extension"
minus the hyphen.

Power to the SSPers!

With similar Translink funding language on the Surrey LRT project, with no announcements of funding commitments until late 2017 for these two projects we now know why they haven't become election issues or photo-ops.

Of course, christy et. al. can keep re-announcing their support for these projects without saying how much they'll cost (an unknown number right now, other than some back-of-the-napkin guesstimates), nor how much BC will actually commit to these projects, other than the 40% Ottawa, 40% BC, 20% others

The BC Liberal policy has said any new taxes for the Translink portion will have to be approved in a referendum. The cynic in me thinks Christy is planning for another referendum failure to get out of spending the money.....oh sorry we were prepared to spend our part but Translink could not get its act together so....

It was 'Broadway Rapid Transit Corridor | Proposed' until 11th Dec 2014, and had been other titles before then.

Jerry Dobrovolny said that the best case scenario has the Broadway subway built by 2025. Ugh.

I know it's a bored tunnel n all, but how could it take 6 years to go 6 km's? The Canada Line was done in 4 years and is 3 times longer with 9 km's of tunnel (2.8km bored) and 2 bridges. Please don't sat it's because the stations are longer.

Hopefully there is no chance Broadway Cambie still ends up with only one entrance.
I think that's more about the station entrance size above ground than the size of the station itself.

Canada Line was faster (and more disruptive) as it was mostly cut and cover. Look at how long it took for the Evergreen tunnel.

Wish the city would allow 10th ave to be on the table, it would allow them to keep their no cut and cover along Bdway promise while speeding up the construction process and reducing costs. If there's an engineering reason why it can't be along 10th then fine, but if it's just because of the bike lane then that's weak.

Yeah ideology does seem to be a theme with current council...
They didn't release staff presentations until the day of yesterdays council meeting instead of the week before as usual. They also added a couple of slides leading people to vote NDP... seems like an odd thing to do. Anyways good info on both presentations including some dates.

COV Broadway extension

Translink update...with 3 non-translink created pages tacked on slides at the end.

anyone heard if they will use 1 large tunnel, (Evergreen-Extension), or 2 small tunnels, (Canada-Line)?
