I'd wager that the biggest issue that you'd see in an inner city elementary school is wildly uneven skills and capabilities that teachers have to manage. Unlike suburban areas where you can probably safely assume that most kids will have been exposed to English and parents have taken the initiative to teach basic things, you'll see kids who may be recent arrivals to Canada or who come from backgrounds where parents didn't really emphasize education. That means some students end up taking a disproportionate amount of time as they master the basics.

But apart from that, kids at that age generally aren't all that different. Certainly the differences become more pronounced as they get into the junior high/high school ages.

^ IMO opinion for most people it isn't the quality of education that is a concern, it's the "quality" of classmate that your child will be around and end up hanging around.

At least that would be my assumption.

There is a reason why a large proportion of kids in Wolseley are in French Immersion at Laura Secord. The answer is Mulvey. And in later years the answer changes to Gordon Bell.

As I alluded to in one of my earlier posts, one of the elephants in the room is that French immersion effectively acts as a parallel system for parents who want to stream their kids out of mainstream classrooms. Sort of a private school on the public dime.

It's not really about the French so much as it is about getting your kids into a more elite group of classmates.

I know a lot of people who came out of Gordon Bell. It strikes me as a good school with a diverse population. I'd rather send a kid there than to Kelvin, where graduate success is measured in how much blow they move a week.

I would think that is the bigger issue. My mother grew up in Wolseley, of course in a different time. Went to Laura Secord and Gordon Bell. Not adding anything, just felt like saying that haha.

That's it!? It's high time they add an escalator and additional back stage space that has been in the discussion phase for years. It's ridiculous that there has been zero notable improvements at that theatre in ages.

i have a friend that was excited to teach in the north end shes at st johns in the computer lab says her students are amazing wouldnt trade it away its her first yr teaching fresh outa school she commutes from the south side and is thinking of moving to the north end now says theres some sketch but overall u expect it and deal with it says seems like a better environment then her highschool experience at kelvin.

Growing up, I knew some very accomplished drug dealers from Kelvin.

Many of them grew up to be community minded people who post on this forum to this day.

Entire main floor seating has been upgraded. So not sure where you do not see any changes. And. Ext they said the bathrooms are getting done.
Personally I don't want to see them tear out all the seats. That's one of the reasons I like the place. Been to 3 concerts this year there so far and seen Alice Cooper there last year.

And last time I was there for Mother Mother about a month ago the entire main floor carpeting was pulled out as they are redoing the floor. Notwithstanding they added AC since TNSE has taken over the building. So yes, things are happening there for sure.

It would be great if The Burt could punt Enterprise from that location and build a large lobby with some added green room (backstage) amenities and perhaps even a restaurant. Imagine the possibilities of being able to actually sell from beverages is a comfortable space! It would be somewhat similar to the annex that Pantages did many years back.
