Behold the late, not-so-great, Motel Raphael (Montreal):

Vanishing Montreal; Gazoo

back before it became a studio for amateur porn:

the beginning of the end:

Just for Acajack (concrete block-bollards):

the End

the Gazoo

read all about it: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/motel-raphael-montreal-torn-down-1.3601076

so famous, it was mocked, and became a name for an indie band:

I would feel pretty uneasy sleeping with a car parked above my bed.

The Town and Country Inn located in Forest Lawn has taken the title of shittiest and shadiest hotel since the Cecil was demolished.

Here's a typical view with emergency responders parked out front:

One of the beautiful rooms:

The beautiful reception area:

I think they might have renovated it recently but not sure.

This review from Trip Advisor is priceless:

This is what you get for pushing through thunderstorms and trying to make it a few extra hours, you end up in Calgary during Stampede and every hotel in town is spoken for. Hard drinking clientele in the parking lot, lobby and bar area were first thing I noticed when I pulled up. As I had been onphone with CAA and online with Expedia, I knew this was it so I decided to make the best of it and stripped EVERYTHING off my heavily laden cross-country travelling motorcycle and lugged it to my room.
While checking in, a cabful of young upper-middle class girls spilled out of a cab. Turns out they flew into town for Stampede and had been to no less than 15 hotels before this one. The look on their faces was priceless. I think I heard "Oh my gawd" like 20 times. As a drunken bar patron stumbled out and started bugging them for money, I felt sorry for them and actually walked them to their rooms. Yes, it was that bad. These 6 uppity young white girls were willing to take a walk to their rooms from a road-weathered Aboriginal biker to feel safe. Lol.
Although my bed did not have bedbugs I still didn't trust the general uncleanliness of it. Further, the bed was like a piece of cardboard. I laid a tarp over the bed and slept in my sleeping bag.
I have flown into many remote communities and styed in some shady places out of necessity, never thought one in Calgary would rank among them. Woke up at the crack of dawn and got out of there before the drunks passed out on the balconies got up

Once again I'd like to nominate Nick's Steakhouse and Pizza for my favourite 70's restaurant I've never eaten at.

My wife says if we ever ate there she'd like Nick to use some of his mustache to garnish her steak.

The parking looks pretty full.

One of the weirdest buildings in Calgary mostly due to it being sandwiched between Crowchild Trail and University Drive. It's had tinfoil over the windows for as long as I can remember.

Regina has:

Knight's Inn

and I'm sure I've posted Glitters as a fine dining establishment so I won't.

In the case of Timmins, we only have one Pioneer gas bar that's actually on the better side of town! But Timmins is really just seedy in general.

Oh that Motel Raphael seemed like a great place to sin!

You just knew that it was bound to be torn down or burn when it finally became a Knights Inn!

I still think Regina's Renaissance Retirement home doesn't get enough mention on here.

This one in North Bay, the Sands Inn has opened and closed a number of times, had fires and of course the usual fights, drugs, prostitution and organized crime meetings.

Sometimes this thread has its own kind of beauty, in an ironic way of course, but here's something I really find ugly, the destruction of the natural landscape. Here is NL's fastest growing small town. It also appears these are unserviced lots. (Google incorrectly identifies it as Trepassey, but it's actually Witless Bay. Trepassey is 71 km away, an hour and half to the south.)
