No! I'm not sure how they're still in business. They closed the Sears in Chinook a couple years ago and replaced it with a Nordstrom's. One of the busiest malls in Canada and they couldn't turn a profit. It was like a funeral home. I'm still mystified that the one at Northhill mall remains open.

There was a plan to build condos on the adjacent parking lot a few years ago but with the snag in the economy there's been no action. Maybe it's the captive market of old geezers in the Mansard roofed condos attached to the mall that keeps it alive?

A former neighbour put up one of these obnoxious things. Unfortunately for him, municipal licensing and standards was somehow made aware of it and it was gone in a matter of days.

That's not entire true that the stores weren't profitable. They just got offered a very sweet deal to vacate the premises.

Years ago I worked at Sears. The most profitable store in the city was Southcentre where I worked. The three worst were Northhill, Marlborough and Chinook at the bottom. They would constantly call us as they had low to none inventory.

Sure Laval is a blossoming field, full of gems. But it's not the only ugly place around ;-)
In my hometown, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, 3 of the main boulevards are major eyesores (rue Saint-Jacques, boulevard Saint-Luc and route 133). If you explore them carefully, you find diamonds, such as these :

La Boucherie... in our beloved caca-d'oie green castle :

Chez Dan, a secular potato joint that probably was handcrafted from papier-mâché :

The guy used to hold a coke and a hot dog. He had to adapt to the economic cycles I guess

That place looks like it started out life as a White Castle although I've never seen a White Castle in Canada.

I don't generally mind this building, especially considering the shitscape it's being built in along 16th ave. But who in the fuck thought that green, pink and baby blue panels all randomly mashed together would look good?
