We are deprived of concerts in this town,so they should get a fairsize crowd.

I don't know the details, but I would guess a wrought iron style 4-5 ft. high.

They are restoring the old fountain but adding all sorts of additional features including LED lighting. I assume there will be a new pond, seating etc.

My bet is they're trying to attract various demographics (a homogeneous crowd would stress test certain aspects of the facility/operations differently than a mixed crowd).

Would I drop $100 for premium seats? Nope. Would I drop $55 to see the stadium, and enjoy a show? probably.

Do I think they can get 25,000 people in for the show? Yeah.

If every show they host is an 'eclectic' mix like this, they'd have a hard time attracting 20,000... but for an opening show, they'll do fine. I think Bryan Adams has wider appeal than many people wish to admit publicly

Come on guys, this is a casino calibre show. There will be plenty of sports events and good concerts to come, no need to shell out dollars just to look at the venue. Even though it's a test event, I'm surprised stadium management didn't try a little harder.

What I heard is that they were hoping for Red Hot Chili Peppers or Maroon Five. When those both fell through late, it was too late to organize anything better.

Yes it was originally supposed to be the chilli peppers,but feet were being dragged and the old saying you snooze you loose kicked in. Metalicca was originally supposed to play in the stadium as well but g'n'r' beat them to the punch. I have good information that there will be a July concert as well. But i wanna say people dont get your hopes up for many concerts in the stadium.

There just aren't that many big touring stadium shows, especially for non-domed venues.

With bigger concert acts that can fill stadiums smaller cities probably have to work around the group's tour schedule in bigger cities and stadiums. I would think those places tend to ensure higher grosses for concert tours leaving smaller cities with smaller stadiums hoping a lower bid for an act plus the act's touring schedule will allow for them to appear in their city. ie if there is a tight window of just or 3 - 4 days between stadium shows in your region in nearby cities the concert act will not have enough time to tear down and set up a stadium show in another city.

I would disagree the Bryan Adams is a casino act. He just completed an arena tour a year ago.

If you can sell 3,000 tickets, you can have an arena show... they just use a small part of it.

I suppose the low Canadian dollar probably isn't helping the concert biz right now, but I suppose these things are cyclical.

2 per year in Regina and Winnipeg is probably the best you can hope for.

I would agree. Between climate, market size, relative isolation and exchange rate, I think that's pretty reasonable. IGF hosted one or two big concerts a year except for last year with none at all.

There have been other big events that have drawn substantial crowds too like soccer friendlies, WWC and non-concert entertainment events like Nitro Circus which is planned for this year. There is only one concert booked for this summer (GNR), and at this point I'd be surprised if there was another one added.

I would expect that NMS will see a similar number of events.

We bought 4 tickets this morning, field level right in the middle for $75/ticket. Not bad. I hear similar seats for GnR are $275? Don't quote me on that!

So avg. $25 a piece for these 3 acts. Not bad in my books. Personally I'm not a huge Johnny Reid fan, but in my experience sometimes you go to a concert not knowing or liking one of the acts and you end up being very pleasantly surprised.

And of course we're paying partly just for the "novelty" of seeing a concert at the NMS. I don't think that's a bad thing. Isn't the venue part of every show? Being outdoors at a concert on a warm Saturday night in Regina with 25,000 other people, what's not to like? Works for the Riders too. I sure as heck didn't keep me Rider season tickets for the last three seasons because of the quality of the football!

I've been to a concert at the O2 (Elton John, 2007). It was fun, but it's still just an arena, although a very big one.

We saw him a year later in Regina (not knowing he'd ever come back here). The big separation between London and Regina was that the London show was a fixed show and they were there for a few weeks, so the setup was a lot more elaborate. But that was a function of the schedule, not the venue.

The sound was terrible at the Brandt Centre, although I was in the nose bleeds.
