Won't say who is buying the building. But confirmed it is not The Humanity Progect currently in the building. @Global_NB

I can't imagine anyone wanting the building. I'm sure they're just after the land for development purposes..........

Funny you would say that. There is a rumor going around that someone was looking for a zoning change to be able to replace the old MCA with housing. Still just a rumor but something to chew on specially with all the potential plans with the revitalization of downtown, and by that I don't just mean the renovation, and new construction plans but also with SCAN busting out eviction notices against downtown resident who use illegal drugs, and/or cause problems in the neighborhood.

Yup. The building itself is pretty much condemned.

Land should be divided up and offered to current land owners surrounding the area. In My Opinion.

What else can be developed in the center of this city block? A nature park? An apartment complex? A fishing pond? It was an actual street in the early years.

I'm guessing city hall is desperate for tax dollars, so 4 story apartment complexes with vinyl siding it is!!!

Fencing and construction trailer on site at the St George street Cathedral. Looks like expansion under way.

I'm too lazy to go back several pages to dig up this project.

It's some well needed restoration. The roof, and walls where in need of repair, and they had to raise the funds to be able to finally get to this point. at least it's faith wont be the same as the church at the North/West corner of St George, and Cameron.

Has there been any word on when they plan on starting the first few buildings across from Sobeys Vaughn Harvey?

Nothing that I've heard of, but both Tannery Place and the Hilton branded hotel are supposed to be complete in 2018, so I imagine work should begin by June or so to keep this deadline.

There is a lot of dirt piled up on the lot where the Hilton is supposed to go. I was wondering if this had to do with soil remediation. This overburden will have to be removed soon.......

Crossed fingers that we see some movement in the next few months! I did read online there are pre-leading apartments and commercial space. It would be nice to get an update on the project.

from CBC

Moncton's Dolma Foods rises from the ashes and moves into new home
Dolma Foods might not officially be open yet, but customers are already making their way down the aisles
By Tori Weldon, CBC News Posted: Apr 20, 2017 7:30 AM AT
Last Updated: Apr 20, 2017 7:30 AM AT
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/dolma-foods-grocery-store-1.4076077

a few quotes:

Quote:
Dolma Foods was a sushi counter and small grocery store with as much local food as Barar could rustle up. But the new building will also house a tapas bar with craft beer and wine, a screened-in patio and a roof top patio, a bakery and a larger kitchen.
Quote:
Barar says it will be a few months before the kitchen and restaurant will be up and running. He hopes to start slow, but anyone looking for groceries is welcome. The shelves are stocked and staff are putting finishing touches on the building and displays.
a few pictures from the article. CBC ought to buy their reporters a real camera or at least an iPhone.

The rooftop. There'll be a half decent view from the patio

2nd floor sushi & tapas restaurant.

This is what St George St should be all about. It should be downtown Moncton's Bohemian and eclectic neighbourhood!

Just visited the new Dolma. Very nice indeed. Met Barar's wife. She says the restaurant is still about a month away from being perfected. Lots of stock already on the grocery shelves but more to come. Quite a busy spot.
I like the new-to-me foods there, from foreign lands and the home made soups and frozen prepared meals in small portions. Ideal for single folks.
My favourite: wild boar at about the same price as beef.

So, this will be the new name for the old Bubba Rays.

The owner will in fact be the chap who owns Mama's Restaurant next door, who I believe is a recent middle eastern immigrant to Canada.

I wish him well. Mama's is apparently quite popular, but I'm not sure if he understands what he is doing with this new concept.

This quote is from Mama's Facebook page:

Quote:
Great news every one we bought the next door ( babarays) we started the renovation and hoping to open by the middle of may we are going to open as a sports bar and night club on the weekend when there's no sport we're going to have comedy shows - magic shows And other life music and I forget to tell you we're going to have full kitchen and lots of good food and fair prices please share with us what's your idea.
Who says there's no sports on the weekend!!! The offerings at the new Hub Club also seem extremely eclectic. If I were to offer him some advice, it would be to pick a theme for his new club and stick with it. I'm worried he's only going to confuse and irritate his clientele by trying to be too broad in his mandate........

I think that should read as:

we are going to open as a sports bar, and night club on the weekend; when there's no sport, we're going to have comedy shows...

My take: Weeknights = sports or alternative. Weekend = nightclub.

I hope the image you posted won't be used as signage... time to hire a professional.

I still think the owner should pick one, or the other. Either a sports pub, or a club.

I know they probably wont, and if it goes bust they will potentially only realize when it's to late... Usually what happens with these types of mixed use ventures.

So that's the old Cloud 9 location. Anything happening with the old Ale House spot?

That Unit seems to have a different Night club open every year or two. Hopefully this new one will stay longer.

I always assumed Navigators would expand into that spot to have a Main St presence, but I guess not.
