The issue isn't the amount of buildings with a >18 rule, it's the lack of buildings that can accommodate children. Banning the rule is stupid, if there was enough demand there would those types of the buildings in the first place.

no, the issue is the number of buildings that are condos, not rentals, where 74% of the owners could well support getting rid of 30 and 40 year bylaws excluding children but still can't. the buildings are perfectly capable of accommodating children and there are many landlord's with suites in them that would be happy to rent (or sell) to tenants with children who can't. the lack of choice works counter to their best interests and desires as well as counter to the needs of many potential tenants.
interestingly enough, virtually all of those buildings that won't allow renting to children allow children to visit. which begs the question...
if it's not ok for someone to live in your building if they have children but it's ok for people to visit you in your building if they have children or, presumably, even for just the children to visit you without outside parental supervision, is there some theoretically magic period of time on which one side having children in your building is okay but on the other side is not okay? an hour? an afternoon? a weekend? no more often than twice a week?
and if someone else in your building wants to have their grandchildren visit as well, is that theoretically magic period of time - whatever it may be - then somehow doubled or do you have to subdivide and share your allotted time with your grandchildren with your neighbors and their grandchildren?
and if you don't use your allotted magic period of time this month or next, can you carry it over and use it consecutively during their summer holidays so their parents can have a week or two at an adults only resort?
