Indeed, but if they remove the wading pools I will be upset as it brings thousands of families to the area through the summer and the reflections of the dome are incredible.

No need to touch the pools but the walkways and terraced edges really need some love. The pool looked to be in decent shape. Its the aggregate finished areas that are damaged.

The non wading reflecting pool will be replaced with one designed for wading with zero barrier entry. One of the problems with the current pool besides not being designed with wading safety in mind is that it wasn't designed to have swimming pool treated water in it, so the chemicals have broken parts of it requiring expensive repairs. AHS said it either had to have no people, or have treatment, so treatment it was.

5 or so years ago the reflecting pool drained into the parkade/pedway due to the decay caused by the treatment.

The super nice pool that is the random concrete shapes wasn't designed for kids running around either, so is now missing a lot of the more dangerous original water features that would be impaling hazards. Unfortunately, the plan as I last saw it was a walkable topgraphic map of the province, where oversized rivers and lakes flowed on their actual paths. Which is cool enough, but I will still miss the en brut fountains.

What do you guys think of the westblock development in Glenora?
Just saw an ad for it and had no idea it was a thing. Seems interesting.

Totally understand the need to update this for safety, but at the same time kind of sad to see it go. Last of a bygone era of dangerous children play places. First school I went to had giant concrete sewer(?) pipes out in the field for kids to play in/on. I also broke my arm at one point on a teeter totter lol. Even just getting in the reflecting pool is dangerous for an adult, let alone a child! Lol. Hopefully update won't kill the vibe of Edmonton downtown family "beach".

Kids are not going anywhere - and seeing them out front gives meaning to what the Legislature is about - the people. Make it safe for them and the idea of allowing ease of accessibility for those with all types of mobility issues is fantastic.

About time!

Downtown parents seek to ban adults-only buildings

BY ELISE STOLTE

Court ruling
The court case had nothing to do with children. In March 2016, Ruth Maria Adria challenged Alberta's Human Rights Act, saying it lets people discriminate against seniors when renting or selling, which is unconstitutional.

Court of Queen's Bench Justice R.P. Belzil agreed and gave Alberta one year to rewrite the act to prevent discrimination based on age. Alberta Justice chose not to fight the ruling.

All that's left for Alberta Justice to decide is whether it should include exemptions.

It will be very well done and it will raise the bar for how you do 'high end' condos in Edmonton. They have thought about every detail on this one.

No, only the shorter panels are see through glass on each floor, and the lighter colors you see are blinds.

I don't see age mentioned here? Should children also not be banned from bars too now? I see nothing wrong with people wanting to be away from loud kids/crying babies. If anything, this law would push people away from downtown and into suburban houses where there's more peace and quiet.

The issue isn't the amount of buildings with a >18 rule, it's the lack of buildings that can accommodate children. Banning the rule is stupid, if there was enough demand there would those types of the buildings in the first place.

That's the point. Keep in mind that this is not a child issue or 'Downtown' issue, it is a PROVINCIAL issue, a human rights issue.

Oh boy, I think you're being a tad over-dramatic here. I could argue that it should be my right, as an adult and a Canadian citizen, to be able to live in a building free of children/infants. I'm not saying children are bad for a city or Alberta or whatever, but that some of us prefer to live in peace and quiet.

99% of the time they would be invisible.

I am honestly ashamed that we are all having this conversation.
