This may sound obvious but we're expecting broadway to become one large connected station right? As in easy to transfer between both lines and what not

I hope so, unless the city of Van was to do some more of its ridiculous social engineering and have everyone exit, go to the surface, and then back down again...

They would probably need tunnels on the platform level (probably one of the ends) that would lead down to the new Broadway line. But I wouldn't be surprised to see them just make people walk out.

Broadway Cityhall Station is built with being a future interchange station in mind.

Ugh I really hope not. That would be kind of ridiculous.

Also just realized that there's going to be a clash in wayfinding styles between the millennium line signage and Canada line signage. Might be a good time to standardize all that across the system.

It would be nice if it was a little more integrated than the connection between the lines at Waterfront Station.

Couple of reminders:

- There is a "knock-out panel" at the west end of the Broadway-City Hall Station mezzanine for a future connection to the M-Line extension station and to a future station entrance on the northwest corner of Broadway & Cambie. The size of a connecting tunnel will probably be constrained by the existing buildings on the southwest corner of Broadway & Cambie.

- The Crossroads development on the northwest corner of Broadway & Cambie was built with provision for a future Broadway City Hall station entrance - it is presently occupied by a retail store - I think that was the Lululemon Lab store that closed.

keep dreaming.

All the engineering work being done right now is for a subway under Broadway.

Ya I thought that building had a Broadway-line future in mind. Hope it all gets built as planned.

Full underground 4 way crossings would be great for that intersection... probably a pipe dream though.

The Canada Line tracks at City Hall Stn are entirely under the Cambie northbound traffic lanes.

From the existing City Hall station mezzanine, a new pedestrian tunnel through the west wall knock-out can connect to the new Millennium Line Broadway/Cambie station mezzanine and can be buried under the Cambie southbound traffic lanes.

While it would be interesting (and awesome) to see Central Broadway be built out with a contniuous underground pedestrian mall between the stations and above the M-Line tracks, creating something like Fukuoka's Tenjin Underground City... I doubt it would happen in this political reality.

I haven't seen any plans showing direct connections from M-line platforms to C-line platforms.

For crowd management, they prefer to have the crowds leave a platform to the station mezzanine, transfer to the other station mezzanine (crossing the street or via a connecting passageway), then to the platform.

Yeah, there's about 2 lanes plus sidewalk width.

You just won't have an expansive space like some of the comments about the need for lots of capacity, etc. suggest.

The knock-out panel is marked in red here:

Agreed that circulating to the mezzanine at Broadway City-Hall requires travel to a higher level when it isn't really necessary, especially if the M-Line extension is under Broadway rather than under 10th Ave.

It would be nice to have a direct connection from the Broadway City hall platform ends to the M-Line platform (centre platform?)
but then you have the problem of people taking the wrong escalator from the M-Line and ending up on the wrong Canada Line platform.
So I can see the simplification aspect of it.

I could see a set of 3 long escalators (like Granville Station) coming up from the M-Line to the mezzanine.
M-Line Station placement and centre/outside platforms would determine configurations for its exits (i.e. end of platform, mezzanines, etc.).

It makes sense to have people walk through a passageway at concourse level to transfer between lines because of a few reasons:

- crowd management. C Line platforms aren't big enough in the first place. The last thing you want is to make people walk through the platforms even if they are not taking the train.
- simplify station design. M Line platforms will be deeper since it has to go underneath C Line tracks. Having one passageway connecting both concourses makes layout easier and more straightforward while saving on cost.
- minimize construction impact. Construction will take place while service is running. Any construction at platform level will inconvenience passengers more than if it were at concourse level.
