Sensitive maybe but there are highrises within a few blocks both west and south of this site.

As for the south park site. I have been informed that we could see site work begin as early as the end of the summer. White Avenue could be quite a construction zone by the end of the year. 3 major projects all moving forward.

Latest render of the Rygar project in London. Shovels are supposed to be in the ground this summer.

London's housing sector is booming with yet another 20 story building announced in Uptown geared for students which is no coincidence as it will have an underground station on the BRT connecting Western and downtown via tony shopping, restaurant, café, bar mecca of Richmond Row.

London needs to stop this; they are putting Winnipeg to shame.

Winnipeg needs to get going with some of its proposals.

London is 12 years behind Mississauga architecturally, judging by its latest highrise proposals. Why can't they take design leadership from that other London?

Tiny Toronto Update on 1001 Queen

By the way, in case anyone is curious, from the last page, 1001 Queen is literally a pile of rubble, demo has finished, there in site prep. No pic but I passed by the area.

Nice to see you back Chadillaccc.

Here is an update on the New Westminster proposal. Looks like the design has been revised and is moving forward.

This will really add in interesting element to New West, which IMO is already the nicest suburb in Canada in an urban context. It will now have true skyscrapers as well.

Cap Nature residential project, as reported on MtlUrb.com. It's located in Montreal's westernmost part (Pierrefonds-Ouest).
The site of the project is abandoned agricultural lands surrounded by many Parcs Nature

It must have been dark when you were passing through because there's a sales centre on site when I passed on the Queen streetcar this morning

Perhaps you have confused the 1001 Queen site with The Logan at 899 Queen East

which is a pile of rubble at the minute

or 875 Queen East

which is also a pile of rubble

Yet, This is a step back and makes it as anonymous as any other suburb.

Please explain.

New West is essentially a small old downtown core itself, and all other downtown cores in this country have been / are building skyscrapers... Have modern skyscrapers made Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, etc... anonymous? (I know there are some on this forum who think so, and even though I disagree with that view in general since cities must continue to evolve and grow, they are at least consistent with their opinion, so I can respect that, but I want to hear your reason. My memory may be incorrect as there are many forum members to keep track of but are you not usually a skyscraper booster in the Toronto area?)

Why is it different for New West to grow and evolve as a city? Must it be frozen in time? Should all new developments there be faux historic? (which many on here hate more than condo towers).

Also, no old structures are being demolished for this project, so New West is losing no historical value or urban fabric in this development.

I fail to see how building skyscrapers in New West is any more negative than doing so in downtown Toronto or Montreal.

I guess you meant height when you said urban context. Context is what sets downtown New Westminster apart for all other suburbs. Now when I think of it, this isn't downtown but rather the masterplanned, high density suburbia next to it so I guess it does fit the bill. Still, it's a loss not to expand off of the downtown area.

It is about as close to the edge of the historical core as it can get, but it does have the railroad tracks separating it (and they won't be going anywhere in our lifetimes).

This spot is currently a vacant empty lot along the river (I think it was industrial land decades ago).

One of the nicest public features about this project is that it will help extend a true river-side walkway along the New West river front.

Hopefully they will release some more detailed renderings in the near future to give a better idea of what will be built.

Still in a very preliminary design stage, the developer plans to use masonry for the podium of this mixed use tower to reflect the surrounding heritage buildings on Spadina. Currently there is a strip plaza and parking lot on this site.
