Keep in mind, the plan is still to have 103 Street reinstated and open to vehicular traffic...perhaps one-way. I was always under the impression it would be closed off permanently, but every info event held regarding the district seems to indicate it will be open to cars outside of main events.

So if that comes to fruition, what we see in that photo is the extent of the plaza.

Proposed rezoning of properties in Strathcona

Date: Wednesday, March 22, 2017

Location: King Edward School, 8530 - 101 Street NW, Edmonton, AB

The proposed rezoning would accommodate a mixed use tower with commercial uses at ground level and residential units above. The proposed change in zoning is from the (CNC) Neighbourhood Convenience Commercial Zone and (RA7) Low Rise Apartment Zone to a (DC2) Site Specific Development Control Provision. The proposal includes:

• 95 metres in height (approximately 31 storeys)

• 240 dwellings

• 6.5 Floor Area Ratio

• Commercial uses at the ground level on the east portion facing 99 Street NW and 89 Avenue NW

• Townhouse style dwellings on the west portion facing 89 Avenue NW

• Underground parking

An application has also been made to close a portion of the lane west of 99 Street NW to accommodate the proposed development. Traffic flow from the east-west lane to 90 Avenue NW will be maintained. Vehicles will still be able to access the site from 89 Avenue NW, but this would be on a private lane and no longer on a City owned lane.

In addition, an application has been made to amend the Strathcona Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP) to change current policy that does not support development of this height at this location.

The City is looking for your input on the proposed rezoning.

The proposal is to develop two, 12-storey residential apartment

When you're down at grade in person the space is not that small. Look at the doors to the Wintergarden to get a general sense of its scale.

It definitely feels bigger in person, but would agree that in actual aerial photos it looks smaller than the aerial views from the renderings. Would a full size outdoor rink fit there like in the renders?

Graham Thomson: New hospital for south Edmonton promised in provincial budget


Edmonton is getting a new hospital.

Sources who have seen the government’s plan say the announcement will come in Thursday’s provincial budget.

It’s not known yet how much the facility will cost or when it would open, but money has been set aside in this year’s budget for “start-up funding.”

The current government knows that this has to get done now. It's unlikely the NDP will form the next government, so there needs to be shovels in the ground by the next election or the new government will cancel it. It's either now or 10+ years from now. The Nuns opened in 1989 so it's about time we got a new hospital.

At one point they were looking at building the hospital near the Misericordia or west of it. Which makes more sense because LRT.

127st and Ellerslie will also make sense because of LRT... LRT is much closer currently to this location than the mis.
