That is thinking ahead. If Winnipeg at 800,000 only needs 15,000 then why does Regina at 250,000 (or 350,000 after growth) need the same size?

Saskatoon's is far too large for their market. They'll likely build a new rink in the next ten years and it'll be smaller than their current one.

Well, no matter what the capacity of the new arena will be, it ought be at the exhibition grounds. The Brandt Centre is part of the largest indoor interconnected trading/event facility in Canada --- even larger than CNE's. ( . . and the 11th-largest in the world.)

That is a real selling/appealing feature for alluring events like the Brier. If the Brandt didn't have such facilities interconnected, the Brandt - alone - would be a tough sell. (With it being smaller than pretty well every other arena in larger centres.)

If we get a new rink we have to be realistic that we're never going to have an NHL team based there. The Pats don't need anything more than 6,000. Anything above that is for concerts and vanity.

The Agridome seats 6200 for hockey. If a new rink had seating for 8000-9000 that's really the best option.

For non nhl hockey Saskatoon's is too big which makes sense, but didn't almost every rush game sell out last year?

Plus, Garth Brooks breaking the old record with 86,000 tickets sold for 6 concerts in 4 days? I think it would be crazy to not built the new downtown arena less than 15,000 with a growing city, just because some non nhl hockey can't sell out like they could decades ago - I don't think those times are coming back for non nhl hockey other than in smaller centers.

Living in Saskatoon the last 5 years I usually forget the Blades are a thing, and I think most of the population does too looking at crowd sizes. The Rush on the other hand are insanely hype and have been maxing out the Sasktel Center. Regina needs a lacrosse team!

I am pretty sure one the main reasons the Pats would want to do this is to get away from REAL. The bureaucracy and rules and getting kicked out for Agribition, etc. are all big deals. As well the fact that every usher and concession worker has to be in the REAL union is crushing to a businessperson who want to innovate or make money.

If this happens I can't see the city or province funding any of it. Getting away from REAL may benefit QCSE but it would leave the city with a 6000 seat arena that would only be used for maybe 40 days a year. Without provincial or municipal money I can't see an arena happening so I can't see a new arena built outside of the ex grounds.

Wasn't that part of the reason the new stadium went where it did? Putting all that stuff together for a complete package?

There is no way the new arena will be built at the exhibition grounds. The Regina Pats have a hard time dealing with management of the park as is. Look what happened a few months back with the Pats and R.E.A.L. The Riders and Evraz are already at each others throats,so Evraz is a real hard organization to deal with.

How many sqft does Evraz have? I'd never heard their facilities were the 11th largest in the world. I'm assuming this is referring to a very specific facility type... the Enercare Centre at CNE is 1,000,000sqft. There are at least 3 convention centres in the US with over 2,000,000sqft each.

To this point, I was happy to see in yesterday's Leader-Post that the City is negotiating a service agreement with REAL for custodial, security, maintenance, event booking, etc. I assumed the contract & terms would essentially have been cookie-cutter... I'm shocked any aspects are even up for negotiation - but happy that they are.

I wish more of these types of projects, taking was what denied in the Cathedral area, and build them downtown for infill. Retail bottom and Living above. Maybe 4-5 floors.

The developer should pass it by the cathedral residents again and see if they think differently now that there is a vape shop and questionable massage place across the street from their soon to open new school.

Regina. This is Regina. That someone is willing to pay $3000 in Manhattan is literally irrelevant.

The average 1br rents for $926 in Regina. The average bachelor suite, which most of these actually are, is $713.

You're going to find it very difficult to rent suites that are 30% smaller than average for 27% more.

There might be a market for small apartments, but not at $1215 + $100 for parking.

What's with the ugly rusted orange. If anything they could have used more glass and more brick to match with the pre-existing. Ugh. And this isn't even the Conexus design yet which I am guessing will be similar? It's definitely "welcome back to the ugly 1970's".
