Looks like Calgary is a bigger city than San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, Detroit, Washington, Boston, Portland, Pittsburgh, Miami, Minneapolis-St. Paul, St. Louis, Kansas City, Cleveland, Cincinnati...

Yep.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_population

From now on I will be sure to correct anyone in conversation if they happen to say that Vancouver is Canada's third largest city. Because, get real. Pfffff...it's not even as big as Mississauga.

Not being sensitive or petty in any way, just using words as how they are defined - it is others who are having an issue with me using certain words as per their definitions. Like I said, I'll cease with my non-skyscraper skylines in this thread because some are annoyed by that. As for my use of the word city, that will continue as in the past as I am not incorrect in any one way in how I have used that word - others will just have to suck it up if it truly bothers them.

Vancouver is almost as big as Calgary and Edmonton combined in a much smaller geographic area, you precious little thing.

City vs CMA

It is indeed true that Calgary is Canada's third largest city. It is also true that the Vancouver CMA is the third largest in the country.

Heck, wasn't Toronto like the second or third biggest city pre-amalgamation, right up to the late 90s?

Vancouver is not the 3rd largest?

Sounds like "Chad Episode II: The Return of the Calgary Booster"

The City of London (UK) has a population of 8,000, Okotoks has 28,000, thus OKOTOKS > LONDON! Woot-dy-woot!!

Actually, based on Speedog's definition it is...

The City of London is a city and county within London (Greater London).

I agree, but it still dwarfs that puny Imperial Capital based on your definition

There's really no need for anyone to get up in arms about this.

It's numbers, people.

City of Calgary is bigger than the city of Vancouver.

The Vancouver CMA is bigger than the Calgary CMA.

This isn't complicated.

The city of Westminster is really the capital. Parliament, Buckingham Palace, 10 Downing Street, etc. The City of London is the financial centre.

Does this mean we can now call Alberta Canada's third largest province? We do have a larger economy than BC, after all
