It's not a bad brutalist building either, but the location for it sucks.
It's worse behind, with no trees to hide this hideous building

One would freak out to know what was standing there before...wonderful Victorian houses.

Building this in the Old Port is the most offensive thing imaginable. Have you been to Montreal and seen the area it's in?

That building I posted is located (or will be for one more day before it's demolished) on the same road that people used to walk along to get to the Atlanta Braves stadium (which also is no longer the Braves' stadium; the team will be moving into new digs 10 miles away this spring). People always seemed to comment on it - not in a good way. It's definitely stark. Maybe not ugly so much as supremely minimalist. One of its nicknames is the Ice Cube.

By the way, O-tac - I enjoy your posts!
Thanks. Will you come visit us one day and see Clockzilla then? I don't mind if you post ugly American shit. I even included Niagara Falls NY's casino in a Clockzilla battle before so it isn't the first time we've seen something from south of the border on here.

The office building across the street (Centre Iberville) has the municipal office for the Borough of Rosemont La Petite Patrie and a Quebec Employment office. The most exciting thing is the bowling alley in that building!

Now back to the Tim's. You can tell that it's one of the old school locations by the colour of the brick. No drive-thru but does have parking. I'm going to guess that the exterior of the building was renovated about 15-20 years ago. Now you know it's Montreal because it has a terasse! (outdoor patio seating with umbrellas) The banner ad on it says "ON VOUS ATTEND POUR SOUPER" which translates as "We are waiting for you for supper." WOW! How wonderful that I can eat supper at Timmy's because you know it's hard to find excellent dining in Montreal....

And I will soon post the winner...

One thing along Grande Allée that I really don't like is the Hotel Le Concorde. The developer behind that obviously had special privileges.

I pretty much understand why some people hate it.
It's quite brutalist and it's far to be my favourite building, but I kind of appreciate its shape and lighting at night aswell as the rotating restaurant at the top that was totally renovated in the latest years and providing an AWESOME view of the city !
Put it in the bucket list if you come here !

That hotel would look better in a different location and not so close to the historical buildings. It just seems so out of place. We thought about staying there back in January but we chose instead to stay at a hotel across the bridge in St-Nicholas (Lévis) because it costed a lot less.

Even still I am kinda into it. Just don't want to think about what was there before it was built...

It replaced the older courthouse, an elegant 2 storey stone building.

I quite like Le Concorde but it would have been better to put it a few blocks north near the Hilton and the Delta or in the area of the Marie-Guyart tower.

I thought you meant urban form. I've been there. I don't mind it in the port. Could be I'm jaded having lived in Toronto which has that haphazard look to the city. I don't care about skyline views as much as street level views either. The height does stand out in the port for now being on the northern fringes. There will eventually be more towers behind it. It's still an quality modernist design to go along with all the quality and not so quality classical architecture.

Soon to be U/C.....thing in Mississauga

Welp, I saw in the news of this towers now being approved by council, and uT is showing photos of this tower being well in excavation.

The cladding and overall design is a mess, but I guess it's something to make Port Credit a bit more modern. I never went to Port Credit so I'm not sure how great the area is.

Quebec City could have ended up looking more like Niagara Falls, ON!

That doesn't look bad. Especially considering it's in Mississauga. Is that little building next to it part of the project or they just colour matched it for the rendering?

On the other hand, I wonder if someday we'll be lumping that building into the same category as its context.

Look at the Aldred Building in your pic for an obvious example -- when it was new, I'm sure you could have easily said it was clashing with the neighborhood. In fact, the Aldred is separated from Notre-Dame basilica by many more decades than the courthouse is separated from the Aldred.

I am noticing that in older neighborhoods, we give a pass to Victorian stuff showing up among significantly older building stock... maybe someday the same will happen with a brutalist building in an otherwise homogeneous Victorian neighborhood.
