I'm not on enough to maintain the front page anymore. So if anyone wants to volunteer for the next thread then by all means go ahead. Perhaps we can talk to the mods and they can figure out how to merge the threads.

Kirk Gaw posted the Footaction blade sign going up on Broadway today. I wish they had painted the wall behind the blade sign, but we'll see what they do.

Please don't. If anything start another thread. I actually like knowing when I see something it's going to be in DTLA.

For many years this forum has included Arts District, Chinatown, City West, and USC-adjacent. First, there is no conceivable definition of Downtown that does not include at least the Arts District. Second, these neighborhoods are not covered in the LA metro thread. Third, a thread dedicated to just these neighborhoods would be dead. Please return them to their rightful place, much obliged.

Yes, please take the time and vote "no" on Measure S.

We need to progress. Every vote is important.

So glad that our prediction/survey was correct.

They won't stop L.A.'s progress. So to every pessimist: "Be happy, don't worry and carry on."

Thank you for voting.

66.56% voted ''No" so far.

668 of 1,396 precincts reporting (47.85%).

That's an awesome result.

Agree. Would people on here seriously not consider the AD worthwhile to post about? Or the Lucas museum?

Edit to add, awesome result on Measure S

NIMBYs defeated!!.......Let the skyscrapers continue rising!

Measure S was always deeply flawed. Can't solve a housing shortage by restricting new housing. Seems to me that non-profit foundation has some splainin' to do....spending millions on an development blocking measure instead of on sick people that it exists to help. More housing construction in higher density developments will ultimately bring housing costs into line...the law of supply and demand. Thank you L.A. voters for having good sense!

A big sigh of relief!!!

Let those who want their 1960's lifestyle move to Orange or Ventura County, or out to the Moreno Valley, or come up here to Las Vegas, permanently stuck in the 1960's!!

I just finished reading NY,NY, How the Apartment House Transformed the Life of the City (1869-1930) by Elizabeth Hawes.

Maybe some interesting parallels here!

What it didn't take, way back then, to lure the single family home owners, and mansion owners, in Manhattan to take to apartment living, a big challenge to the architects back then.

Of course, those mansion owners, if they were to give up their big spreads, demanded at least 20 rooms and complete soundproofing. Like: 28 inch walls to separate the units, extra thick floors.

When a developer approached EF Hutton to sell her mansion and replace it with an apartment/coop building, what did she say: Alright! I'll move in, providing you can duplicate my mansion on the top 3 floors! And? She got her wish, 54 rooms in all! And they even took her interior décor and incorporated it into her penthouse! Home Sweet Home, as if she never moved at all!

Imagine what it would take to lure some of the West Siders into apartment living today!!!
