I think I read that there was to be a Trader Joe's at The BLOC.

Oakwood is the Lennar building at Olympic and Olive. It's going to be a mix of furnished corporate apts and unfurnished. It looks surprisingly nice inside.

Maybe they are waiting for The Bloc to deliver us an Alamo Drafthouse... haven't heard from that in a looooong while. At least their LA facebook page is still active and there is a website for it. It's just taking forever. By the way... it looks like the entrance will be on the flower st side, which makes sense when you look at The Bloc in person. That entire side has a false construction barrier in what used to be a solid wall

https://drafthouse.com/la

Also included in the rendering... looks like The Bloc and/or Alamo is wishing for a Tesla *showroom* as a tenant with an entrance next to the theater. It's modified by showing "Tachyon" instead of "Tesla" but they have a rendering of a Tesla Model S and the Tesla colors

Please no. That idea is not only a bad idea from an urbanist perspective, but from a business one too. Why would you put a car dealership in the densest and congested part of the city? Test drives will be slow and unenjoyable. Tesla will sell less cars as a result. But from an urbanist persepctive, cars will constantly becoming out of the dealership for test drives, interrupting pedestrian traffic.

Don't believe a single Trader Joes rumor at any location, EVER. Broadway Palace is legit the 8th different place that i have heard that is rumored to get a TJ's.

They're not really dealerships, but showrooms.

Yea, the one in Pasadena is very cool and in a pretty small space. I think a Tesla showroom would be perfect somewhere in Oceanwides retail lineup.

Ya, they have some inside malls, if that helps give you a sense of how small they are.

As others have pointed out it would be a showroom and not a dealership. You can see these auto showrooms in urban environments around the world. I've seen them in the middle of dense Asia cities and in Paris. And of course historically they were once very common in downtowns across the country. LA still is, and will remain an auto-centric metropolis in the foreseeable future, so it makes perfect business sense.

Didn't they use Angels Flight in La La Land? (I've only seen the ads)

Is the WG still opening on March 8? Looks like there's little construction left in the interior.

Re: Angel's flight

" It was shut down in 2001, following a fatal accident, and took nine years to commence operations again. The railroad restarted operations on March 15, 2010.[5] It was closed again from June 10, 2011, to July 5, 2011, and then again after a minor incident on September 5, 2013. The investigation of this 2013 incident led to the discovery of potentially serious safety problems in both the design and the operation of the funicular"

I'm wondering if it will take another fatal accident or incident to finally convince them to give up on this shit.

A new safety system completely replaced the system which was the cause of the fatal 2001 accident.
Safety upgrades were made to the doors of the cars and an evacuation walkway was constructed.

It's absolutely safe now and should run without major problems. 116 years old and very few incidents so far.
I am glad we have it back.
