I've been wondering that myself. He was one of the key contributors and I was able to post less because he usually voiced my views on this board.

Is there currently anything planned at Race and 15th? That lot has been empty for years now. I'd like to see something sizable go there.

The large empty lot behind PAFA? No, currently nothing. I think PAFA owns the lot. Would like to see something go here. I wish PAFA would partner with a developer for a mixed-use development here.

Some non-profits seem think that they're not supposed to make money.

Parkway owns the lot-- they've been doing a lot of work lately partnering with other developers to get things done, but as we all know, most of those plans don't work out.

Well Hanover and the Home2Suites both happened with Parkway as partners. Their latest proposal is broad and spring garden.

2017 CC housing report

http://centercityphila.org/uploads/attachments/ciz8shha90i339eqdeyw4c63n-ccr17-housing.pdf

They claim 45k jobs added since 2010 but the BLS indicates its around 57k jobs. Perhaps they don't count public or nonprofit jobs. Always a catch with CCD data to shape their narrative of slow growth.

^^Center City District usually only counts jobs added in "Greater Center City" and "Greater University City." I'm not sure why... obviously that leaves another 17,000 that could have been added elsewhere in the city.

I told you it was going to be slow because of the Trump election. Investors are hesitant and aren't going to invest in projects until they get a better sense of where the economy is going. Investors don't like uncertainty. We may have a slow year, or at the very least, a slow 2 quarters of the year. On top of that, there are two bills currently in the PA legislator that could seriously destroy Philadelphia. The one is the cut of $600M+ in funding because of the city's Sanctuary status, and the second is a bill that would increase state wage tax, leaving the total income tax in Philadelphia at nearly 10%. A lot of investors are likely waiting to see what happens with these.

Got you- good point. But you can't calculate overall growth of Philly if you don't count all the jobs. That's slight of hand. What's interesting is they show identical growth rate for city and region.

I would hope that Wolf can veto both and the legislature doesn't have enough votes to override. Unfortunately what can you do about what's happening at the national level.

I only support a project at 15th and Race if the Wendy's on Chestnut moves there. And also the Popeyes.

Ok. Let's make sure they have a third retail spot for a Bojangles. Now we're cooking with gas!

Disgruntled customer returns to the Convention Center

Quote:
The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, joining with the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators, has booked its 2022 annual symposium and Congress at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, 20 years after the Cataract group vowed it would never hold another meeting at the center.

"In my over 25 years of involvement in producing meetings from New York to Anaheim to San Francisco and Chicago, I have never been confronted with such a negative labor situation as was experienced in your city," David A. Karcher, executive director of the group, said in a Philadelphia Inquirer interview shortly after the group's last meeting here in 2002. The society canceled its 2008 and 2012 Philadelphia conventions.

To the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, which booked the group, the Society's return indicates that word is beginning to spread that the center's labor and management issues are behind it. The Society's convention is one of the largest, expected to draw 13,000 visitors who will spend 37,359 nights in hotel rooms and generate a projected $40 million in economic impact.
