Unfortunately I do not have time right now to chase down correct / incorrect information . I thought I had read somewhere ....
this project was either put on hold or scrapped all together ..... Is it a GO or a NO .
BTW , just how tall is this 38 story baby suppose to be ...... if it is reality ....

I'm surprised St. Joe's Prep dropped that low, but I'm also surprised to see Shipley (probably the most elite of all the schools on that list) all the way down at #8. The Quakers sure do know how to edumucate people, though -- not only is #1 Germantown Friends theirs, but so are about half of the Top 15 (including Penn Charter and Friends Select).

E: Wow, I had no idea that Al-Aqsa was that good. And has Roman Catholic fallen off a cliff lately or something?

I'm a product of Delaware County public schools, so I really have no horse in this race.

But it goes without saying, there are a plethora of good school options in the region. So if one were to say St Joe's had "dropped", it's really about what above it should be ranked lower, no?

When I look at the schools higher on the list, there aren't many I'd say are demonstrably "worse" than St Joe's (this of course is all somewhat subjective as the metrics to measure these things are themselves subjective). But in so doing, the only schools I see that are higher that I've always thought were a bit over-rated are George and Devon Prep.

It could be, though, that with the population explosion over the years in Bucks County that George has gotten better. I always thought it was peculiar that there weren't more good private school options in Bucks County. The tilt for the really good private schools in this region has always been west of the city, if not very near in Northwest. There is a noticeable dearth in Bucks County, but I always assumed it was because people who sent their kids to private sent them to the schools in Mercer County (Lawrenceville, Hun, etc).

That being said, no way the Christian Academy in Brookhaven belongs on that list. The Christian Academy is literally where kids from my middling public school in Delaware County went after they were expelled from public high school. It is in no way a rigorous academic institution; certainly nowhere near as good as Roman Catholic (which doesn't appear to be on the list) or even most of the public schools in Delaware County (which contrary to perception) are uniformly quite good (as demonstrated by the public list accompanying this one).

Many over-rated. Tuition over-priced. But, the buildings and sports field are top notch. If you are looking for homogeneity and rich folks that can afford it, then it serves the purpose. Conestoga/TE, Radnor, Lower Merion SD just f fine for many.

St. Joe's Prep is the city's most elite institution, the high school our power brokers all attended. The private list's methodology is hard to suss out; I would expect St. Joe's Prep to be Top 10.

And yes, Roman Catholic should by all rights be on that list.

The major private schools are all closely associated with the region's favored quarter. Shipley, Haverford, Devon Prep ... they're all on the Main Line. By contrast, Bucks County was fairly rural until quite recently; Newtown is the oldest settlement in its area and the George School by far the oldest private school in the county.

(Interestingly, it's also a Quaker school.)

Because of this history, while Bucks County has become populous and wealthy recently, it doesn't have the infrastructure that parts of the region that have been like that for longer have. Short of endowing a new private in Doylestown or something, there isn't much you can do to change it, either.

As a Saint Joe's Prep atendee, I can't really say much of anything in this argument without sounding like a pretentious prep-school student

I can say that I truly believe it was the greatest choice I could've made and is definitely preparing me well for high school.

Hmm I wonder where my high school, West Catholic Prep ranks on there.

Edit: Haha, nevermind. It's ranked 76/95 in the Philly metro according to niche: https://www.niche.com/k12/rankings/private-high-schools/best-overall/m/philadelphia-metro-area/

West has a long way to go before it can be compared academically to Roman and St Joe's Prep. However it's still better than your average Philly public schools by a long run.

Looks like it's ranked better than my alma mater, Cardinal O'Hara! We're ranked 80/95 on Niche (sure as hell beat attending any high school in the Chester-Upland School District, however!).

PHL using legislation in attempt to finally acquire 136 acres adjacent to airport

Quote:
Legislation has been filed with Philadelphia City Council that seeks to end a years-long stalemate between Philadelphia and a landowner of 136 acres in Tinicum, Delaware County that sits adjacent to the Philadelphia International Airport.

Landlocked by two rivers and Interstate 95, the airport has been buying nearby land to accommodate its long-range expansion plans that could involve adding a runway, terminals and other related facilities. For example, the city, which owns the airport, agreed to pay $90 million in 2015 for International Plaza, an office complex on 27 acres that is also located next to the airport.

“The airport is land constrained and this is a prime parcel for the growth of the airport and the $7 billion expansion they have been contemplating,” Feeley said. “If the ordinance is approved, it would be a significant step forward in the city’s expansion of the airport.”

The city’s board of review hears and makes decisions on condemnation proceedings.

Though the legislation could help resolve the situation by establishing the value of the 136 acres and prompting an amicable sale, Henderson could reject the valuation. If that happens, the airport would ask for permission to seize the property through condemnation.

The airport is currently evaluating its priorities when it comes to its expansion. The recession and several airline mergers that directly affected operations at the airport have meant the needs of PHL have changed, Tyrrell said. Congestion on the runways has lessened as airlines have “right sized” the number of flights they need, a change that also reduced the number of landings.

“The immediate need for a runway has been relaxed,” he said. “Everyone has agreed we need a runway but the question is when.”

Though there are fewer flights and landings, the number of passengers using the airport has increased, stressing the airport’s terminals. If the terminal complexes are expanded then the airport would need to reconfigure its cargo building and would likely use the Henderson property for expanding the cargo operations and not a new runway, Tyrrell said.

Public hearings are scheduled for this week on the legislation.

Thanks for the article, I wondered what it included.

It's worth noting that PHL passenger numbers took a hit in 2016. Total passengers were down 4% and International passengers down 8%. Passenger numbers have hovered between 30-32 million for the past decade, but 2016 had the lowest number in the past 10 years

Which parcel is this article referring to?
They have struggled with acquisitions to the west, south, and east in the past.

Land acquisition has long been an issue for PHL expansion - changes in PennDOT/zoning could alleviate this, I believe, but that is for another conversation another time. However, the current expansion plan dates back to efforts beginning in 2001 that are simply no longer relevant and do not adequately capture the needs of the airport as confirmed by Nova's accurate description of passenger counts over the last 10 years.

Just like the 5th runway is no longer critical, the plan for a separated east terminal for regional aircraft is not - aircraft movements are becoming fewer and larger, instead of smaller and more frequent - and it was planned to connect to the existing terminals through an automated people mover.

Instead, the airport should focus on improving terminals A-East, B, and C as well as creating a consolidated and convenient car rental center and multi-modal transit hub for getting to/from the airport, and instead of routing a new people mover to that misplanned new one, route it through the transit hub and across 95 to Eastwick Station, with another station by the PNC building so a mixed-use district for economy parking, hotels, etc. can be built up that is connected to SEPTA.

The current plan can be seen here: https://www.faa.gov/airports/environmental/records_decision/phl/#phl10

Does anyone know what's going to go in this building and the building being built across the streeton Broad (Not sure if they're classified as lowrises or not)? I pass them every day and have no idea what's going in them.
