Great updates - thank you harryc and SolarWind. I think 9 West Walton is shaping up to be a very elegant addition. I like the scale. And is it just me or does the precast look of decent quality?

A few coats of sporadic spraypaint on there from the local 'artists' and this one should be complete....

Wicker Park Connection (1640 West Division) is drilling caissons U/C. 174 ft/15 floors/2018 completion. Can someone add to pg. 1?
Also, No. 9 Walton's height will be 456'/37 floors not 35.

Personally, I think No. 9 Walton and The Sinclair are turning out just fine. And love the entrance of the Rice Cube!

You read my mind. Since the Roosevelt Jewel is two parking lots divided by L tracks, I'd like to see them develop the western parcel into a Tower of Jewel and sell the east lot to a developer wanting to do something more ambitious. This would have the added benefit of allowing them to keep their store open on the east lot until the new store's opening.

^^^Absolutly! I also wonder if BP actually knows what kind of gold mine they are sitting on across the street? Even if it is rated as one of the top 5 most expensive gas stations in the country every single year.

This is turning out just beautifuly as I had a feeling it would. Now THIS is how you do PoMo. THIS is how you do precast. It's not faux neo-classicism or echo deco. It's drawing on the detailing and motifs of those older styles within a thouroughly modern program and use of buildings materials. They aren't trying to make an art deco building with modern materials. They are making a modern building with subtly art deco details and massing.

Then there's the precast, the wonderful detailling at the base is being matched particularly in the spandrel areas between the windows and the casing around them. There is no attempt to deny that this is a modern building and therefore will have modern buyers who demand modern amenities like floor to ceiling glass. All of the detail is therefore crammed between those huge panes of glass and it works brilliantly. There is no attempt to pass off the massive precast panels as limestone blocks. Notice how the horizontal spans are completely unmarred by faux masonry joints? The same applies to vertical sections where any original art deco designer would have desired to express pure soaring verticality and probably did their best to hide any distrupting horizontal lines. This is a MUCH more honest use of precast as a material. The architects here have made a clear choice to use the magic of precast to allow themselves to place lines only where they are needed for aesthetic purposes or to hide joints in the material. They aren't abusing that ability to play games in an unoriginal attempt to disguse the materials they are using as something else.

Best part of the design so far??? They decided to go with black window frames instead of the ClimateGuard TM brand windows they used at Elysian. It's amazing how well any design can turn out when you pay even rudimentary attention to detailing.

PS I love the little inset bay windows at the base. Also love how the main facade pattern is a classic chicago style window with large fixed center pane flanked by two smaller operable windows. Some design motifs have enduring functionality and this is one of them.

Very much agree. This is going to be a handsome one.

That one is for the old Blue Plate Catering site just to the West of this one. Blue Plate was delayed in moving into their new space in the Sterling Bay complex at Ogden and Fulton and that delayed the Harry Potter tower. Looks like Blue Plate may finally be moving or moved in over there so maybe we'll see something moving here soon?

Machines are digging up the ground at the Mccormick Place Data Center. I think we can say this one is in site prep.
