I have this feeling that for some reason, Reilly is really oddly oversensitive to NIMBY pressure in this particular area....I remember something of the sort happening with 108 N Jefferson - if anyone else remembers the original proposal was for a taller residential building than the hotel tower which eventually got built (in between, there was an office proposal)....
Regardless of the outcome of this parcel, they need to decide what they want that area to be. As of now, it's an odd mix of aspiring residential enclaves, nice historic mid-rise stock, and all the complications that the train tracks provide.

^ Seems to me (looking at this corner on Google street view) this tower would have been very appropriate for the corner. There are many tall buildings nearby, most of which are taller than this one would be. Seems like a missed opportunity.

The details and glass on K2.0 are turning out much better than I expected. Won't be the boring commie block I thought it was.

Don't toy with me. I used to live in Pensacola Place in the northernmost Ionic column and I used to sit on the balcony, stare at that waste of space and dream about a building on that suburban corner.

It's Uptown, so this will take decades but right on for the last gap in that snaggled intersection getting filled in.

Holy mother of God! I have long dreamt of seeing that ugly suburban eyesore vanish for eternity! That is easily on my top 10 list! Easily.

Please please please happen. Please don't let the NIMBYs strike it down. This is precisely the kind of development that neighborhood needs.

Just my opinion
I've defended Reilly before... he is actually pro development to the extent that he can be, and understands that parking lots and vacant lots are a huge drag on neighborhoods. When he can, he's pushed for less parking, streetscape improvements, and other things we all like; this way he can go back to his voters and tell them he extracted concessions.

Some aldermen like Walter Burnett or Danny Solis have their base of voters in minority neighborhoods outside of downtown, so they can afford to run roughshod over the wealthy residents of West Loop and South Loop (respectively) to let development proposals move forward with only minor tweaks. This is more or less intentional in the way ward boundaries are drawn. But Reilly doesn't have that ability; his ward is entirely downtown. He's got to get votes from the NIMBYs at the end of the day... and so far, he's been pretty successful at letting downtown develop while at the same time keeping his butt in office.
