Oh oh oh. Sorry confusion.

So they can go to one of the other Gold's locations 14 times a year only. I thought you meant they were only allowed to go to another gym, such as Goodlife, 14 times a year! But that's even more bizarre. Same gym brand, but you MUST go to this location.

I can't believe Gold's only let Regina members use other gyms 14 times per year. That alone would have pushed me to GoodLife (use any location in Canada, as often as you like).

(this rebranding won't be the Burger King to Jake's disaster... anyone else remember that miscalculation?)
Goodlife isn't much better - unless you are willing to purchase the more premier membership, you are limited to the gyms in your home province. You are able to use gyms in other provinces, but at $5 per visit. Silly policy in my mind.

I've actually enjoyed my Goodlife experience. $60 a month and when I am home in Regina I can use the Golden Mile gym anytime. And I can access any Goodlife in Toronto (where I now live). Gold's never interested me.

Ps. The Golden Mile Goodlife is beautiful! Brand new, and clean and tidy!

I get dinged $2 a month for access to all Goodlifes compared to just one.

Perhaps they've changed it recently - when I signed up 2+ years ago, it was $52 per month for access to gyms in home province, versus something like $65 for Canada wide.

GoodLife membership I had in Ottawa included any location in Canada - I didn't even realize there was another option, until just now.

My current plan (corporate) includes unlimited access to all 350+ locations in Canada for $450 annually (similar to annual YMCA, Golds, etc rates).

GoodLife has been aggressively expanding, so I'm surprised they didn't acquire these Gold's Gyms as they did with 7 independently owned Golds in 2012. Maybe there was an attempt that fell through.

You very much underestimate how much national branding is to landlords.

Gyms are hyper-competitive with other national brands looking to enter Regina. A national brand helps with many things such as financing and peace of mind.

Gold's Gym is brutal. I never liked them. Been with Goodlife for over a year. Btw,... I am sure all the commercial gyms in Regina would like to know that Planet Fitness is coming to the East End. Invitation to Tender has been put out there. How do you Like that? There will be 7 commercial gyms in the east end. What a shit show. lol. I am secretly hoping Golds... err Evolution Fitness will fold... nobody likes them.. bunch of scammers.

Brightenview Development International Inc. has officially become a land-owning client at the Global Transportation Hub (GTH) in Regina, SK. As part of the $7.6 million agreement reached between the two parties last year, title to the first phase of property was transferred this past week.

“We are excited to complete this milestone with Brightenview and recognize their investment and commitment to the province,” said Bryan Richards, President and Chief Executive Officer of the GTH. “Over the past year, we have hosted numerous overseas enterprises interested in the Brightenview business model, and are optimistic about their investment attraction efforts. The GTH’s central location, foreign trade zone designation, and welcoming business environment has proven to be a great fit.”

Details on Brightenview’s development plan are expected to be released this spring as designs are completed and the project breaks ground. Highlighting proprietary and competitive reasons

Where the heck is PF going? Obviously, it should be on Quance since that is gym row with the Y, Orange Theory and Goodlife all in a block and a half.

I thought Gold's downtown gym was a rather niche one that should do well catering to a specific clientele, but I never heard how it is doing.

ETA: Okay, I look it up and what do you know? PF is opening on Quance, just not where the other gyms are. It's going into the dead space that was Wholesale Sports aka Linen N Things, etc.

[shoots coffee out nose]

They actually closed that deal? I assumed it had simply died, like Brightenview's Dundurn plans.

A perfect partner for the GTH there couldn't be: Beavis to the GTH's Butthead.

Isn't this crazy?? How can there be 7 commercial gyms all in the east side?

1) Golds (Evolution Fitness)
2) Anytime fitness
3) Goodlife
4) Orange theory
5) The Y
6) Fit zone
7) Planet Fitness

Just silly.

lol, Planet Fitness! That place is the joke of the fitness world. What kind of a gym offers Pizza Day to it's clients? "Stay fat so you come back and work out more!" And free tootsie rolls when you sign up!

Although I cannot comment specifically about Planet Fitness, it would seem that the world loves the Least Common Denominator when it comes to chains. Look at McDonald's and KFC. The worst of their specific fields and yet the biggest chains.

What can I say, there's a lot of people out there who love to think they're working out & tell people that they go to a gym, but then never seem to get in better shape. Funny how that happens.
