Not sure why we don't follow the example in Phoenix with their ring road naming convention. The ring roads down here aren't that different than Stoney in that they are on or in close proximity to federal land.

Loop 201 should be the name.

Wasn't as big a problem for me - but I could see it challenging for trucks and other larger vehicles. So reality is a pinch of both.

So let me guess - when it is election time, you're going to have an "opinion".

What's interesting is that this stretch is 20k less vehicles than Henday, so I'm not sure why it's so bad. A third lane through to 16 Ave is maybe one of the best bang-for-the-buck investments AB Trans could make right now.

Westbound exit ramp to 52 St backs up way onto mainline Stoney during the afternoon rush. Wasn't expecting to see that movement fail so quickly. First remedy is to make that entire exit ramp two lanes, then give the ramp more green time as it's safer for traffic to back up on 52 St than it is on Stoney. Once that's not good enough either, they've got to get 88 St up to a 4 lane boulevard and extend Seton Blvd out there so it's a back door for Mahogany, then build the Stoney/130 Ave interchange.

Glenmore east of Stoney is jam packed at 5 pm. Are all those people commuting to Langdon? The lights at 100 St back up pretty bad. Plans are drawn up for twinning Glenmore to Langdon but I didn't think that's something that would be necessary so soon.

Everything else seems to be working just about as well as it did at opening.
Keep in mind that today was not a normal day for traffic. There was a big snowfall the day before, and there was lots of ice and accidents all over the city. 660traffic claimed it was the "busiest day in three years" for Calgary traffic.

Today was not really a typical traffic day anywhere IMO.

The exit to 52nd does back up a bit mind you on an average day, but it doesn't usually spill out onto Stoney.

I also don't understand why they went gangbusters with the 88 St interchange when they could have easily spent that on a 130 ave connector instead.

Popular route for residents of Langdon, Chestermere and Strathmore.

Well, this was unexpected. New gravel pit and haul road on the West edge of the city from Old Banff to Hwy 8. Major traffic changes, starting within a few months, include a new light on Hwy 8, closure of access to Lower Springbank Road and heavy truck traffic along 101st Street, lasting 4 years. (And even longer if they decide to build the West leg!)

They've been excavating material from the TUC on the North side of Old Banff Coach Road for years now, so this shouldn't be a huge surprise for those who live in the area.

They've been removing lots of brush and trees along the far SW portion of the route, 37th Street and 146th Avenue is bare now north of 146th and they've started on the area just north of 22x as well. Nice to see progress starting (and only weeks before we move away from the area, so I won't have to deal with it)

Lots of activity between Fish Creek and 22X now. Couple dozen pieces of earth moving equipment moving around the last few days.

There seems to be equipment and work going along glenmore in the south side from 37St all the way past Sarcee. Looks like a lot of it is either site prep or utilities work. Things seem to be in full mode out there

Are there any plans to fix the 2nd lane east-bound nightmare bottleneck on Glenmore seeing as there are plans to widen Glenmore to 3 lanes from Sarcee to Crowchild as part of the City's responsibility for the SW Ring Road project?

I kind of wish they could do something about the causeway. I know that they just expanded it a decade ago, but having the pleasure of driving it every day, in the mornings it backs up 14th down to Southland regularly, and in the afternoon it just backs up Glenmore and Crowchild for miles each way. I hope the SWRR will help a bit, as might the transitway if it gets built.

I would think Glenmore would get a little quieter once SW Stoney opens up. The same for 14th st. So adding more capacity might not be needed between Crow and 14st. Sarcee and highway #8 on the other hand might see ususge jump through the roof until the ring road is 100% complete.

Definitely agree with this.

I'm in SW near 22X and McLeod Trail. I think most people, myself included, will be taking SWRR to Hwy 8 to 22 to TCH to get to Banff.

That should be a bit faster than going through Bragg Creek.

That stretch of Glenmore is going to get a lot more traffic. It needed at least two more core lanes in each direction 10 years ago and in five years it will need even more.
