Isn't Calgary Co-Op doing a push into the market? Urban Fare into Calgary so into Edmonton isn't a stretch. Though really close to the Save-On.

^Anything within driving distance to Save-On, Safeway(Sobeys) or Loblaws won't happen unless they see a large captive market Downtown. In that sense it will be more convenience oriented. But one can hope. I really want to see a grocery there.

i heard urban fare wants to drop that name and just convert them to save-on foods.

Whole Foods isn't nearly as cheap as walmart or real canadian superstore for the same products and the 3 do carry a lot of the same brands.

Some ICE grocery guesses:
- Loblaws CityMarket, assuming they don't cannibalize their Brewery District location
- Co-op, would it be a stretch for them to test out a new urban format?
- Sobeys, any chance they come to their senses and re-open Urban Fresh in ICE District?
- Italian Centre
- T&T
- Urban Fare

Perhaps something more boutique like Blush Lane? They have recently opened two urban locations in Calgary but still have just the Whyte location in Edmonton.

Eddie Bauer is now closed and hoarded off in City Centre mall.

BTW this may be an ignorant question but why can't they reduce the size of these hoarding walls so that they don't impede traffic flow? The former Urban is especially bad due to the escalators next to it, quite the bottleneck there.

^ usually because when they're fitting out a CRU the TI work goes right up to the lease line, so the hoarding needs to be out from that to keep the public away from the work

Because you renovate the façade facing the hall, you need room to work on it.

Is Royal Bank still planning on taking the NE corner of the main lobby of the COE tower? If so, will this be a new RBC branch, or will they be moving one of their 2 existing downtown branches (2nd floor of Manulife, Jasper/101 St)?

Also waiting to see what will take the other retail spaces in COE.

Apparently H&M is going to be opening in City Centre around the old Urban space.

^ There's some chatter elsewhere that H&M could also be taking over the ATB space below that.

They often do take 2 levels to take advantage of storefront and access.

I don't think so, I'm pretty sure it's staying just on level 2, but things may have changed since I was involved. The bank has some infrastructure that I'd be surprised to see abandoned

So here are the businesses left on the lower level east of ECC:

Shoppers - taking over HMV and Eddie Bauer spaces
The Source - ?
Fatburger - moving to 3rd floor
Papyrus - ?
Caffe Sorrentino - heard they were closing in March
Cleaning By Page - ?
Art of Cake - moving out of downtown, can't recall where exactly

This makes sense. Urban is directly above ATB. H&M must be leasing the ATB space as well as Urban and Eeva & Eve space. Fantastic addition to downtown!
