Twelve bucks for a jug of organic milk is a tad on the silly side

I'd never shop there regardless but seems to me, delivering ultimadums to your customers seems like a good way to expedite your businesses failure

although it's not the first time this - or similar - appeals have been made.

http://www.cbc.ca/beta/news/canada/edmonton/earth-s-general-store-struggles-at-downtown-location-1.2844827
from 2014

http://www.vueweekly.com/going_grassroots_to_raise_some_green/ from 2009 when even the main store was "customer financed" to the eventual tune of about 100k paid back in store discounts rather than cash.

personally, i'm not sure egs is as much a business as it is a life-style choice where the owner is dictating the life-style choices of his customers as much as they are. http://earthsgeneralstore.ca/pepsi-is-buying-into-probiotics/

i suppose as long as there is alignment the business will be successful but the regular need to make appeals to support an unprofitable store would have most business owners rethinking their approach to their customers instead, not appealing to their customers to rethink their level of support for the business.

We stop in once in a while if we are making something and are missing an ingredient. Couple of days before Christmas we needed some vinegar. $8 something at egs and out of stock. 1.49ish across the street at shoppers.

Egs might make sense if your a trust fund hipster who likes to fill up your fixie's basket with groceries or a fool who wants to spend a huge portion of your barista income on grossly overpriced product options.

I hope the increase in power and delivery costs due to the carbon tax is playing a role in this. That would be so delicious.

It was good enough to make some slaw with. The bottle was probably twice as big too.

I left my 4Runner running to warm it up parked in front of egs while I was taking a few loads down the elevator of supplies for the new office from my condo upstairs. It was one of those ridiculously cold mornings before Christmas. One of the egs employees got there before the other employee with the key showed up and was waiting outside. Pretty sure he left a patch of ice under where he was standing from the tears he had because of my indifference to burning a fraction of a liter of gas.

^ 4Runner.. nice choice. Traded the old Lexus in on a '16 SR-5 a few months ago. That big bad SUV gets quite a bit better gas mileage than my 6 year old Tacoma

The only reason I know milk is twelve bucks a jug there is a friend of our shops at EGS. She lives over in Terrace Heights so it's easier for her to get to the 82ave location. She either rides her bike over and carries her stuff back in panniers or, if not nice out, drives over in the Prius. So yeah she's the type and it's her thing. But it's totally a lifestyle thing, and there's gotta be enough of those lifestyle folks around to make it sustainable

cool. bought a used 2011 with 38,000km on it in nov. pretty sure it's the sr5 with the limited upgrades (20" wheels, leather, sunroof etc). Crazy paying as much as i did for a 6 year old vehicle but couldn't be happier with it.

^ car & driver a few months ago

Not surprising. It's always far exceeded the resale of other vehicles

edmonds and kelley rate them high as well...

on the other hand, jeep wranglers also rated well with Kelley so some of that resale price is based on popularity and demand, not just quality (although i'm sure quality is a driver on the demand side as well as it would be for the "unwillingness to sell for less" syndrome that people happy with their rides tend to have).

When he opened, the (really badly managed) Sobey's was still open and the business model was that folks would get meat, etc from there and he could fill a vegan niche.

But the Sobey's failed, and outside of a meagre meat selection, EGS's business model didn't change.

Get fresh veggies there - that's about it. For those who like - they do have a pricey but delish dill pickle brand.

Mostly, rents are just way to high on 104 Street to support a marginal business (which most grocery stores are).

Brewery District parkade under Loblaws is a tad busier, obviously because of the cold temps. But it would be nice if the parkade usage was the norm not a fallback.

I actually used the parkade at City Market to replace some headlight bulbs on the weekend . 1 minute from my house and nice and warm (unlike my insulated garage hanging around -2).

So what would that mean for their lease on their builder with First Capital at South Pointe? Anyone familiar with some potential clauses in the contract that might give them some breathing room?

I am struggling to identify who would go in ICE. Even if they were given great TI's and next-to-nothing lease, there's few operators.
